    Hello,

Why, when the Linpus Lite system is said to be easy to use, does there appear to be so many problems with using these machines?
Is it simply inexperience with Linux, or is it the OS itself that is the problem?
Does it not like being interfered with?
Has Acer "Acerised" it too much?
Having been lurking here for a while, it seems there are problems with all aspects of this netbook, which is putting me off getting one (as I have no experience of Linux at all - although I am fed up with Windows).

The only changes I would make would be to replace One Mail with ThunderBird, maybe update to Firefox3, add Gimp and get a CD rip/burn programme. Or would all this be problematic?

    Thanks.

I've added Thunderbird and upgraded to Mozilla 3, all of which is easy to do if you follow the blog from Macles. I've installed GIMP (but never used it), installed Realplayer and also got it set up to use my Nokia phone as a 3G modem. All in all I've found it easy to set up and had no problem at all. I know nothing of Linux either.

You need to ask yourself what you want. If you want a windows-esque PC then this isn't for you as unless you are really into Linux it can be difficult to add things (like games etc..). If you want a basic PC that is highly portable and once you've done a bit of tinkering you'll leave it alone and just use it then the Aspire One is great.

If you think of the Aspire One of being a mobile phone that you can tinker with but without the functionality of a windows PC then you can't go wrong.

I have only had my box a few months, but have installed Thunderbird > Gimp > VLC, can not answer regarding FF as I only use Opera which installed fine, I consider this a much better browser.

The only software that I did encounter an unresolved dependency issue with was VLC but after a few tries (3) all went fine. (Probably it was my fault the first two attempts failed) :(

I use my AA0 for on the go stuff and as yet have not found anything this little box can not handle. :) So would highly recommend it.

Personally i think Linpus has been Acerised too much as you put it. Linux is a learning curve, the Acer OS doesnt really help. If you dont mind spending the time learning a new OS you'll probably find that it is much more intuitive, hence i recommend buying an AAO and replacing the OS.

If you dont want to learn a new OS but don't want to install new apps either, get AAO with Linpus, else i'd stick with your Windows/Mac route.

    Good luck!
