Okay, so I've been attempting to install the modded intel GMA 950 drivers...

I've followed the guides on by My. Dorit (). This appears to be the recommended method. As a brief overview, this involves downloading Intels 965 express drivers, and editing a file to force an install.

Now, by following it exactly, I can't get it to install. I think this is because the mod is getting me to change a device IDs in the igdlh.ifo file to 27A2 and 27A3, but I don't think I have these specific devices installed on my One (its the ZG5 btw...)

If I install the proper drivers, the 945 Chipset ones from intel, it reports that my device ID was 27AE. So, in preparation for having another go, I uninstalled that driver. What was interesting, was that when the system reverted to the generic drivers, I was left with the VGA adapter driver, and 'unknown device'. The VGA adapter registed as the 27AE again, but the unknown device had an ID of 27A6. Puzzled, I went back and tried the Mod mod again, only this time, changing both the device ID's that I had to change to 27AE (found in the sixth line of the code, found below), just to see what would happen.

My changed managed to start the installer, and away I went! Only problem, is that close to the end of the install, my screen went blank, and I had no option but to hold down the power button and restart the One. I saw a strange DOS window, something like Windows Management or something before my system booted up again, and the driver appears to have installed properly. I now have a 965GM installed.

However, the unknown device has now switched to 'video controller'. Still with the device ID of 27A6 of course.

I'm not seeing any immediate ill effects from having this driverless hardware present, but this cannot be right. I've been thinking about it more, and if you look at the part I have to edit below:

    Code:
    [Intel.Mfg]
    %iBWGX0% = i965GX0, PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2982
    %iBWGX1% = i965GX1, PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2983
    %iBWGQ0% = i965G0, PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2992
    %iBWGQ1% = i965G1, PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2993
    %iBWGC0% = i965G0, PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_27AE
    %iBWGC1% = i965G1, PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_27AE
    %iBWGZ0% = i965G0, PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2972
    %iBWGZ1% = i965G1, PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2973
    %iCRGD0% = i965GM0, PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2A02
    %iCRGD1% = i965GM1, PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2A03
    %iCRGE0% = i965GM0, PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2A12
    %iCRGE1% = i965GM1, PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2A13
    %iBLBG0% = iBLB0, PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_29C2
    %iBLBG1% = iBLB1, PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_29C3
If you look, everything comes in a pair. Now my thinking is, in the part that was changed, I make one device ID to be 27AE and the other 27A6. This might solve my uninstalled Video Controller problem. But the code got me thinking further. I was told to edit those specific lines in the tutorial, but maybe I should be editing a few lines below? The ones for the 965GM's? After all, dont we all have 945GM's in our Ones, not 945G's?

Would it even make a difference?

Thank you for reading this long winded post. I know practically nothing about this kind of thing, and probably am off on totally the wrong direction, but I thought I would just post here and as for some help... thanks again!

ive tried 965 and 965 mobile drivers too (forced install) and both of them fucked up some rendering in the games so just stick with the retail driver + 3d analyze if needed.

Well, I've now installed the 965 driver, seems to be successfully. Reverted lines 5 and 6 of the code to normal, and changed 11 and 12 instead to 27AE and 27A6 respectively.

Tried to run HL2 (using the special parameters) and it runs, just laggy. That may be because I only have 512mb of RAM currently. Unfortunately, I didn't try and run it with the normal drivers, so I don't know how much of an improvement I'm getting. But if its running, then I might just leave it...

hmmm so this is a vista only thing if I'm correct? I was searching around and there was no mention of a XP version of the same trick.

Sorry for taking so long to reply to the thread!

Anyway, sorry I can't help you guys, the guide's I've fond seem to indicate that this is for Vista only, I don't know about XP.

I've left windows behind now anyway, and stuck OSX on my One... happy enough, and leaving my Xbox 360 for my gaming needs! :)
