    Hi Guys,
I have had a look though previous posts, but cant find a solution to my problem...

Trying to run some older DOS based games in XP on my AAO, and I keep getting the same error message, which I cant seem to sort out. When trying to install or run games (I cant even install C&C / Red Alert) I get the following message:

C:\windows\system32\config.nt. The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows Applications.
    Choose 'Close' to terminate application

I'm running TinyXP. I have tried running the files in compatability mode, and I cant see to get anywhere? Have spent a good few hours Googling, so would really love some help!

Thanks in advance, great board, have been viewing in the shadows since I got my AAO about a month ago

Your trying to run the old DOS versions of these games?

    XP isn't designed for that...
It can be bit complicated but try Dosbox...
    http://www.dosbox.com/
I use the d-fend Reloaded frontend to make it a little easier...
    http://dfendreloaded.sourceforge.net/

you could also try the Windows versions of those games... which were released for free a few years back...

You will need a fileshack account...

If I remember correctly, these are the CD ISO's.. so you will need a burner... but they are the windows versions... And I have tried them on my Aspire one...

On another note... I didn't have a burner hooked up to this thing when I tried these games.. I used Microsoft's Virtual Cd rom control panel...

    anyway... have fun...

    Hi,
    thanks for your reply.

The files you linked to are the ones I'm trying to get to run, with no joy.

they work on my xp desktop, but not on the Aspire One. Any ideas?

Maybe it's TinyXP... From what I've read, it's not really designed for battery based systems... I don't really know what else to tell ya... but I will look around... see If I can find some more information on the net... Everyone finds something different... :geek:
