I'm trying to get my other laptop and my New Aspire One working on the same network so I can use synctoy. Laptop 1 (running Vista) is working well in the workgroup-- it can see the other computers in my dorm, and I can link to my roommate's laptop and all that good stuff. The Aspire One (running XP), however, only sees itself in the workgroup. I've turned off the firewall and allowed for sharing, and I have made sure that the workgroups have the same name (WORKGROUP). Strangely enough, Laptop 1 can ping the Aspire One, but the Aspire One cannot ping my laptop. Does anyone have any suggestions? I've wasted way too many hours trying to figure this out.

    Thanks!

Check the IP address on the vista computer and then manually configure the Aspire One to be on the same IP address range.

If the vista computer IP address is 192.168.8.145
and the Aspire One's IP address is 194.66.82.11,
then the Aspire will not see the network.
but if you change the Aspire to 192.168.8.140 it will work normally.

    Workgroup names must match exactly.
