Hi, I cant any longer start the package manager (add/remove software). I get the following error :"unable to retrieve software information" And under details: " Cannot retrieve repository metadata (repomd.xml) for repository: fedora. Please verify its path and try again".

I dont have any experience with linux, any ideas on how to solve this?

This was about to be the last straw... linux is a pain in the butt. does anyone know how to get thunderbird to work after you have installed pidgin? it runs, but it wont get my mail though... I had it working on my last try (i intalled FF3 and it crashed...)

I'm happy its only a server issue:) I just need to get thunderbird working and a calender program and I this computer will fit my needs.

It is always "pain in the butt" if you try to hack an unfamiliar system and can't debug errors on it. If you have problems with particular piece of software start a new thread and specify errors that you are getting. You cant really install much now because repos are down but this is a very rare event we are just unlucky (though I must admit it gives me another reason to claim that Ubuntu is better then fedora :p ) I had no problem with firefox 3 and thunderbird, everything works.

I don't consider trying to install a few programs hacking a system.. it should just work IMO... I really like the "one" so far, but its been hard getting linux to work right. Is Ubuntoo much easier? Problem is I rather like the desktop with linpus.

You are not supposed to install additional mail/IM programs , Linpus on aspire is highly modified fedora. Most of the apps are altered standard linux programs. So in my opinion installing thunderbird/pidgin/vlc is a hack. I would advise against installing ubuntu because you will encounter even more problems. You will have to play around with kernel and boot loader which is not very easy even for people who used linux for a while.
