I am looking for an intrepid PC technician who would like to make some money doing professional RAM installations for Aspire One owners. I am surprised someone with these skills hasn't already come forward. There is definitely potential for some money to be made here, from Aspire One owners who want more RAM but don't have the time or the skills to do it themselves.

    Any takers?

I'm thinking of taking mine to the local computer shop (along with detailed written instructions). I think that would be cheaper than paying a stranger on the Internet plus shipping both ways plus insurance. I wonder how much the Best Buy Geek Squad would charge?

Pretty sure there are few people like myself that would.
But the factor here is trust if the person is reputable.

Buyer needs to pay shipping Back and Forth +Labor Costs.
That's where most people stop. 10-15 USD to ship times 2
that 30+ USD. $35-50 Labor costs thats about $75+
Now most poeple are anal about warranty and try to screw the tech over.

Lets say buyer uses laptop for 3 weeks and it doesnt work.
He will automatically Blame the Ram installer.
    EVENTHOUGH its not Installers Fault.

2nd some people Fundle with the Unit before hand like stripping screws etc etc
and then they to blame the tech.

If it wasn't for ppl using techs as scape goats, i am pretty sure ppl like me and others will do it.

I used to do it for PS2 Slim/Thick installing the Chip.
At one point i only accepted unopened and untampered devices.
Had to use my own Void stickers to make sure ppl didnt send me back stuff that they have messed with internally.
I accepted any damage on my part if it was the result of my work damaging the unit.
(But thats as far as installer covers his/her work)

I am sure there are plenty of ppl including me willing to do this service.

But you also see risks of boths sides.

$25-35 for the regular Desktop and Laptop with Flaps (Which you can do ur self)
I used to work there a year ago the pricing for opening an laptop varies from location.
Our store charged by hour for opening Laptop casing $25-35 an hour.
They always round up and add 1-2 hours depenidng on what they wanna do.

A decent non rip off Small Computer store that knows what they doing is preobably the better bet over BestBuy

its so easy how can you pay someone to do it?
its still voiding the warranty (supposedly) so does it matter if a pro gets paid to do it, or you get yourself a philips screwdriver and do it?
and if you dont want to do it, then live without the extra ram.

As others have pointed out, the problem isn't installing the RAM - it's shipping it both ways to a complete stranger, and the person doing the install not being held liable for any damages.

Personally, I would do it for like $20, but the person requesting the service would have to provide the RAM and pay for shipping both ways. I would insist, of course, that there be an understanding that I would not be responsible for any damages or incompatibility w/ RAM...

I have 15 years IT exp and have upgraded all my laptops, but after watching the video, I decided that the best plan was to buy it from PCWorld who offer a RAM upgrade for £15 installation. I bought the laptop, ram and upgrade from them and it cost me £269 in total (original cost of laptop was 229). As I bought it from them and they did the upgrade I don't have a problem with the warranty. Job done ;-)

I was just on the phone to Acer Australia and they are saying that as long as you provide a tax invoice for the ram installation they will still honor it on warranty regardless of whether the technician is acer certified or not!!

And in my case where i work in IT and have my own ABN(Australian Business Number) he says that i can just write a tax receipt/invoice to myself charge $0 on labor and it is still honored for all of their acer laptops including the One. They realize it is more tedious to install RAM but as long as nothing is damaged they will honor it.

I can finally upgrade my RAM without voiding the Warranty!!

I wonder if it is the same for other countries? Any one had this answer from their Acer Support Line?

My store said that it would take over hour.
I didn't think it was worth it.
I just bought the 1GB and will upgrade it myself after warranty.

15min-30min to someone who took apart their Acer Aspire One Alot.
    45min-1hour+ for any first timers.
And they will always charge $20-$35 Per hour, greedy places will try to get 2 hours out of this = $40-70.
So technically it sounds about right.
Unless they charge you eve more then no its not worth it, else thats about the right price you pay to get an official warranty reciept.
