    Hi, first post here…

I’m kind of stuck. What am I doing wrong? :?

I bought a ZIF to CF adapter on ebay.
    … and I’ve got a 16GB A-data 350x CF card.

If I connect the adapter this way:
    http://i35.tinypic.com/lhdi0.jpg
… the red LED (on the adapter) will light up but the bios will show “none” on HDD model

If I connect the cable any other way the CF will still not show in bios and the LED will not light.
The cable should be all right as it will work with the original SSD.

The CF card is brand new but unfortunately I don have any CF-readers so I can’t check the card.

I have also tried my 100GB 1.8” Toshiba HDD and it will work fine. The Toshiba cable will not work with this ZIF to CF adapter. I can feel that this adapter is made for the thicker kind of ZIF cable.

Could it be that this adapter does not support 16GB cards?

Did you bend the end of the ZIF cable that plugs into the adapter so that the metal contacts are on both the top and bottom?

That was the turning point while I was trying to do make it work.

Look at the 2nd picture in the first link. That's how your mod should look.

    Thanks! It works now :D

Actually, I tried that alternative  ... but I guess that my flipside Toshiba cable is to thin (it comes from a USB 1.8” HDD case). After reading your answer I tried to put some thin paper between the cable and the ZIF connector and now (finally...) the CF card is recognized in bios.

    This thread is awesome..

I am wondering though, and not to rain on this thread's parade, but couldn't faster read/write speeds be achieved by doing this? http://www.aspireoneuser.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=40&t=160 (using SD reader as HDD, using a relatively fast SD card)

Are there any downsides to it? I mean obviously if you remove the SD card, you won't have an OS, but assuming you don't? I could be missing something.. cuz so many have gone to such great lengths to do the zif-cf mod. But I would prefer not to open up my AA1, and I've already got an SDHC card.

    Thanks a lot!

You can't boot from the card reader(s).

Ok. My mod is finally finished.
Everything works 5* except sound card. I get this weird breaks.. trashy sound. I guess it's some issue with new realtek drivers :|

Ah and btw I didn't order any flip side cable. I've just bent the normal cable at one end and it worked perfectly.

    Hi@all,

    Yesterday I modded my A110 with a 16GB MaxFlash x233 CF-Card.
Which file format should I take at the beginning of the WinXP installation?
Which file format is better/faster for CF modded AcerAspireOnes - FAT32 or NTFS?

Out of curiosity, what model of SSD does the EEEPC 901 12G XP come with? I'm assuming it's totally different from the AA1 SSDs, as WinXP comes preloaded on the 901..

I did my own mod with a 30GB toshiba drive, only removed one plastic part from the case, same as tnkgrl did.

Mod more or less inspired by her mod, just didnt want to use doublesided tape on the motherboard.

    Hi all!

Is there any necessary additional configuration or installation that the ZIF TO CF converter and the Transcend 8GB 300x runs in AAO with DMA mode 5 or is this standard?

Many thanks for your help and the great public instructions for modding the AAO

You may want to add the Seagate Momentus 7200.3 (ST9320421AS or ST9320421ASG with G-Force Protection) to the list for the A150, should go between $100 to $130

anyone have any luck with the A-Data 350X 8GB ?? I've finally found a local supplier for this part at a good price and I'm wondering if it's worth the trouble of butchering my unit.

Has anyone tried a 16 Gb Transcend CF card for primary memory?
I have seen posts that say that the One supports both 16 Gb and 32 Gb SD cards in the accessory slot.
