"Tosh also announced new 8GB, 16GB and 32GB SATA flash modules aimed directly at the booming netbook market with speeds topping-out at 80MBps for reads and 50MBps for writes."

If the only the price is right... :D

Deebo how is your AA1 running after adding the 5mm hard drive? What system are you using with it? Do you see any performance difference? BTW great looking job.

I have another CF to sata adaptor from ebay which can work with my desktop under UDMA-5 mode but not AA1. :(
Is there any body knows any cf to sata adaptor which suports UDMA-5 and AA1 at the same time? Thanks A lot!!!

That must be an expensive setup
Why not just get an Patriot Warp v.2 or OCZ Core Series v.2 of 32 or even 64GB with even faster speeds

Just completed adding a Toshiba 30Gb drive as per the "deebo" mod/pics above. Added 1Gb of Crucial RAM while I was there.

Running Win XP SP2 with minimal tweeks so far (no nlite or smillar) and it runs at a very acceptable speed. I would say these two mods are very good to do if you purchased the Linpus One, but want to switch to Windows. (It was the Bluetooth hassles that did it for me.)
I now have a Belikin mini bluetooth adapter working well under XP.

Now if adobe would only sort the CPU hog of the Flash player, and Google would add an AD Blocker into Chrome the little One would fly along!

For all those who don't want to hack about their one. Google My digital discount. Then search aspire one ssd. They are making a direct 32gb replacement with a write speed of 14mb/s. Not amazing I know but it should run windows without stalling. Availability is from the 15th. People have already used their other ssd's in the eeepc's and dell mini 9's no problems. As long as you format as fat32 doesn't seem to like NTFS. It seems they are the same SSD but with the interface altered the every time a new netbook comes out. Ignore the picture it is just a default picture.

kghunt - those are NOT for the AAO. The mini-PCIe interface is for the Asus and Dell mini 9. The interface pictured is the correct one for the description but is WRONG for the AAO. The only place it would physically fit is where the WiFi card is (more diskspace or WiFi - some choice). Just because it says 'ZIF' doesn't make it compatible.
MyDigiD are just plain wrong and will be getting lots of complaints if people do actually buy these for their AAO.

I spoke to someone at digital discount. They confirmed that they are intended as direct upgrades for the stock ssd. The description is not entirely accurate and the picture is only a placeholder as they have not recieved the item yet so they have not tested it and taken any photos. But it definately is a zif connector and that is not an accurate picture.

Hi all,

First post...

I have an MTRON 16G 1.8" zif drive and ATTO has 50M write and 80M read at the upper end of the plot (above 32).

Hi folks,
I am having the same problem getting the Aspire to recognise the ZIF to CF device.
ZIF_CF1.jpg[/attachment:w348f7ob]
ZIF_CF2.jpg[/attachment:w348f7ob]
ZIF_CF3.jpg[/attachment:w348f7ob]

1. Got the thin 5cm cable.
2. Used the filter
3. Checked to ensure the Pin1 is in the correct position on card and board.
4. Red light on the ZIF card and does not show up in boot screen.

I tried with a Kingston 266x 2Gig CF card and the A-Data 16Gig card. But nothing happens.

I read that you may need to bend the pins, but I am unclear how this is done. Anyone got a pix?

I am open to any suggestions :)
Thanks!

I'm on my way to work right now, so I can't give you a proper response, but I had the same question about "bending the pins."

Since I can't provide pics right now I'll just try to describe what to do and hope it doesn't just add more confusion.

What you have to do is bend the metallic part of the cable in half so that you have metal showing on both sides. Since it is super small it is super hard to do with just your fingers, so I recommend using some sort of pinching tool (I used small needle nosed pliers) to flatten the bend as much as possible.

That bend end should be inserted into the adapter, not the motherboard.

If this isn't clear I can try to provide pics sometime later, just let me know.

Eric

I'm glad to report that I took ur advice and used a flat nose pilers to fold and SQUASH the cable. I was very worried that it would break the connections but instead it made it flat enough to fit into the adapter (very snuggly) and when i booted to ... tears in my eyes ..... my first mod. Oh mama would be so proud of me :)
Thanks Eric! Will put up the pixs later.
