Super happy to hear it worked for you! That same issue took me 2 solid hours of repeated trial and error before I got it to finally work.

There's still a crater in the wall where I was pounding my head against it after every failure.

    :)

2 hours? And a crater? Did the wall ever recover?

Once again, thanks for the tip!

The quality is crap but it gives you an idea how to fold the cable.

    And this is my mod..
I will upload some photos, for someone who is looking for some ideas about his/her own AA1,because one word is like 1000photos or the opposite? :D My mod is almost similar with another guy's mod,but with small differences..
If you have read all this thread, you will already now about how to unscrew the AA1,so "let's go straight to the roast" (just Greek phrase :D )..
    Enjoy it!

Finally I finished with my mod..I wanted to find a flip side cable,so I started to research the ebay.I found that if you order an adapter,it is cheaper than the 5x cables pack,so I asked a seller if the 2 cables that will send me with the adapter were flip side,so when he said me yes,I made an order. The next day I was wondering if the seller from hongkong understood what was I talking about,so I send him a picture for confirmation. And guess what? He asked me to forgive him,but he is not sending me flip side cables, but toshiba blue/white cables because he thought that these are the flip side cables!
So,I ordered an adapter without reason and as it had pass almost one week without cable to continue,I decided to fix my own.
Anyway, this cable worked and now I am running a full version of Windows XP without any problem.
It was a really expensive mod,but at least it worthwhile the try,as you are transforming a "snail" machine to a normal notebook.
    Cheers! ;)

This thread has been quieted down lately, but I hope someone can still help me.

I can't find the ZIF cable that came with my CF adapter, so for now I'm trying things with the original AAO cable. I'm still a little confused by the flip cable and such, but when I orient the original cable a certain way, the red LED light on the CF card comes on. If I flip it the other way, it doesn't. So, can I assume that the direction with the red light is correct?

Well, if it's correct, then I still have a problem. I plugged in a brand new, from the box SanDisk Extreme III 16GB card, and when I boot and hit F2, it says None for the HD. Thinking that I might have fubared something while taking things apart, I retried the original SSD, and I was able to boot to the linpus desktop just fine. Should the laptop be able to recognize the card? Should I format the card on another computer via a card reader first?

I'm assuming the system doesn't care that I haven't reassembled everything and that the CF adapter is just hanging out of the case. I do have the original black inductor thing on the ZIF cable still.

    Hi

I need a quick opinion. I too am trying to replace the slow SSD in my AAO110. I am in Bangkok right now and am looking at a 2.5" 64 GB SSD drive, SATA 2, 90MB/s write, 155MB/s read.

My questions are this: Is the drive the correct interface for the AAO 110 (SATA vs IDE vs ....?)? If so, will it physically fit inside the case in place of the old drive? Please advise.

As I am looking for a replacement SSD, what specifications do I need for it to be viable? I am having a hard time finding these specs - I am sure they are out there and I am missing them....

Has anyone found an easy SSD drive that is an "easy" swap, with no cutting or hacking of the case? If so, what is the brand and model number? I have only a few days left here, so any advice would be great. I can get almost anything here, cheap, but I do need some advice.

    Thanks!

If you want a performance upgrade for the A110 SSD then you have two choices

    1. MTron Mobi 3000 1.8" (you may need a longer ZIF cable). Available Now.

    2. Runcore ZIF SSD. Available soon. Straight swap for the factory fitted Intel/Samsung 8GB SSD.

SATA drives cannot be used in the A110 unless you solder a SATA connector onto the motherboard and even then the power supply for the drive is questionable.

I'm sorry to bore anyone with what may be a dumb question, but I am trying to understand what platform the AAO 110L SSD uses for its SSD storage, SATA or IDE. Looking at prior posts on this topic, it appears to be IDE. If this is true, than the MTron 3000 would not work because all models I found listed were SATA. Also, the smallest footprint they come in is 2.5", not 1.8". Am I missing something?

Also, is the Samsung SSD that came in mine SLC or MLC technology?

Where can one find these specifications about the hardware to better understand what is "under the hood", and most importantly, what to buy to improve performance?

    Thanks for your time!

None of them. It's ZIF HDD.

Above showing ZIF HDDs and ZIF cable/ribbon cable...

    This one showing ZIF SSD:

White connector on edge is a ZIF connector...
