I bought this and a 4GB Transcend CF but no sign of recognition in BIOS (The led on the CF adapter is constantly shining red).

From my experience, a shining red light isn't what you want. Mine did that before I got the flip cable. After that, the red light would blink.

I thought as much, since it was mentioned earlier in the thread. But someone also said that the mod I tested should work without a flipside cable?

Anyways, could someone tell me where I can find a flipped cable?

Hello. I made the CF hack. Bios recogizes CF card, it is ok. I can install windows on the card normally. But when I try to boot from the CF card, it is not working. Just blinking cursor in the top left corner of the screen a doing nothing. I left it about half an hour, but still blinking. I tried with the filter, without, NTFS, FAT32, normal cable, flipped cable. I don´t know what to try now. With the original ssd it is still working, so the cable is ok, aspire one is ok... Thanks for any advantage.

in my experience and from what I have read, you definitely want the filter on. Also, if you were able to actually install Windows, you definitely have the right cable and orientation. As for why you get the blinking cursor, I don't really know. When I get a chance, I'll check to see how my card is formatted. I have been able to use the XP restore disc, XP Pro from a retail disc, and also Ron's TinyXP, which is what I'm using now.

I tried with and without filter. Still the same... When I try to restore windows from the dvds that came with aspire one it is damn sloooow... It displayed over 3 hours remain time, so i quit it. Normal windows full boot instal takes about 5-10min to copy the files and when it reboots to continue install, there it ends with the blinking cursour. I also tried a bit copy of the original ssd to the cf card, but the cursor again. Filter on/off no change.

Hello all, been following this thread for a few days now.I
chose to put in the Adaptor nearly everyone is using and a Transcend 16Gb 300x CF Card. its all stowed away nicely, done technically correct as far as i can tell.
Still, it won't boot Windows 7 tho, just as some other folks experience here.
What have i done? 1: flipped Cable careful and installed it thoroughly (including the so-called "filter"). 2: formatted CF Card with diskpart to NTFS, set it to active, created bootcode with bootsect /nt60 to be bootmgr-compatible.
Windows 7 installs fine, after first reboot i will be stuck at "error loading operating system" which obviously is a bios-generated printout. From reading here it appears to me that the nt52 bootcode will generate a blinking cursor on black screen only, while the nt60 bootcode (vista and above) will print out the said message. still i think its not a windows generated message but from the bios though. it comes up before any part of windows can be loaded i believe. its a card-access thing.
i still try to figure out wether this error is due to some bios-incompatibility or if it is just a cable fault. my feeling tells me that for a boot-initialization there is a special signal needed on the line and while all signals go through this particular one does not. so i feel its somewhere in the cable or the adaptor.
I really appreciate some reasonable, logical input on this. i think there's quite a few peeps out there waiting for a fix.

    [EDIT]
You may want to have a look at the pictures from my mod here (the forum is german, but i think the pictures in my post speak for themselves - don't bother translating any text):

hmm, I have definitely been curious about Windows 7. Maybe I'll have to install it just for the sake of knowing if I can ...

I was planning to do almost the same thins as you did Sneakyghost. But then with a SATA-CF convert, so I could also keep my SSD as storage. I've got my SATA-CF in today, but I don't know when I'm going to do the mod (likely not soon because I've got some exams coming soon).

    @ poesje:
yeah well u kno i hated the ssd so much for its sluggishnes... didn't want to have that in the system anymore really u see...

    Update on my failed Mod:

    - Took out BIOS Battery overnight because i could not flash Bios (i was hoping to correct this error with a newer Bios). then, after one night:
    - Turned the Cable the other way round (modified/flipped side on Mainboard, normal side on Adaptor)
    - Took a spare Cable with lower Quality, not the flipped original SSD anymore
    - Removed Ferrit-Filter Ring around the Cable (That anthracite gray thing)

And guess what: suddenly Windows 7 did indeed boot as if there had never been any issue. It just came up within a very short time. When setup had finished boottime was down to 42 seconds overall. Very nice.

i was incredibly surprised by the smooth operation the book would now show, especially after i had my HD Tune Pro results printed on screen. Just to good to be true.

SUPER TALENT FEM32GF13M 1.3" 32GB IDE ZIF MLC Internal Solid state disk (SSD)

I'm thinking of picking one up and trying it out myself but would love to hear anyone else's experience...

You've now got me thinking of the very same thing. I can only see them stocked in the US, Newegg don't ship to the UK but there's a few on the ebay us site and I've asked for a shipping quote. If it's too expensive I'll send an email to my mate in LA.

    Hello,
I am not really sure about the MOD, especially that I have a brand new Acer Aspire One AOA110 that came with 8GB SSD.
I want to upgrade to get more speed (space is not an issue) than the stocked SSD from Acer.

Is there anyway to get a better results without having to MOD the motherboard, or switching the cables/extra adapter?
I mean is there any other way to get a better results with just direct swap?

Can I buy this one? for example??
64 GB PATA Solid State Hard Drive

    OR

32 GB Solid State Hard Drive
    http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/prod ... sisid=8622

Because the Dell Mini 9 used the Solid State Drive, but I am not sure what interface does the Acer Aspire One AOA110 uses!

    @mujtabaq:

The Dell has a different connection to the AAO. danq989's 3 posts back lists exactly what you need because Super Talent just released an SSD as a drop in replacement for the Aspire One.

    Super Talent 32GB

I just finished installing the Super Talent FEM32GF13M 32GB SSD for Acer Aspire One and I am happy!

I received my package from Newegg today. Installation was easy, I followed one of the youtube guides for upgrading the memory, but stopped once the old SSD could be removed. I felt kind of tricky pulling the ferrite from the old SSD (it's glued on). I had never used the ZIF connectors, and was a little concerned about the alignment, but it just worked. It took me about 40 minutes to complete the installation.

Some quick tests show 64000kB/s reading and 32500kB/s writing (results with old SSD: 37500kB/s and 10900kB/s).

    Raf.

    Re: Super Talent 32GB

    QUESTIONS:
why do you have to remove the ferrite?
what happens if you leave it?
you pull it off? can it be cut off?
