    Here you go....

I'm a little dissapointed to be honest as my write speed seems very low compared to others like Andy yet i'm using the the same Type/Speed Transcend 300x CF card although mine is the 16GB version. The only pause i get in windows is when it first boots up and if i try and open a window or program within the first 20 seconds i get about a 5 second pause but after windows as been running 20 or so seconds it runs perfectly...

Like i said in previous post i've just done a full install of XP SP3 and fully updated it through windows update (which gave me no trouble). I've turned off D2D in Bios and Page File in Windows but that's the only tweaks i've done. The Adaptor is exactly the same one Andy as used and I've also used the filter on the cable. The CF card is genuine and not from eBay.

Are there any tweaks i need to do as my write speeds seem very low?

    Your thoughts?

Maybe it's because it is 16 GB...

I've bought one Transcend 8 GB 300X (but still hasn't arrived) to test cause I get the same results as you with Silicon Power 16 GB 300X...

    But let the pro's speek...

    Maybe we've done something wrong...

    I have noticed something...

Earlier in this thread Andy53 said "Now my 300x CF is running UDMA mode 5 on my Aspire One"

When i go to device manager and check Disk Drives and IDE controller etc. It says nothing about UDMA 5 in fact under Disk Drives\Transcend\Type it says basic and under IDE controller\primary ide channel it gives me 2 options "DMA if available" or "PIO only"

I installed HDTUNE and it gave me the following info.

    ATA/ATAPI-0

    Supported/Active - UDMA Mode 4 (Ultra ATA/66)

Andy53 - How do you know your running in UDMA Mode 5?

Martini-Man - have you tried HDTUNE and what UDMA Mode are you getting?

On Device Manager -> Secondary IDE Channel Properties -> Advanced Settings -> Device 0 - I have ULTRA DMA MODE 4

I also disable AVG when benching and I have used the flipside cable that came with one of my adapters from deal extreme (yes i have 2 adapters just in case!)

I've also used the filter on the cable, also i did have to stick a small peice of tape on the back of one end of the cable as it felt quite loose so i needed to make it thicker so it would grip. Surely the card and cable would either work or not? not half work.

I find it quite disturbing that i've spent over £100 on a CF card that only registers at UDMA MODE 4 and only seems to reach half the write speed it should.

    I'm open to any ideas

I'm not yet sure should i install 1,8" hd or 8gb Sandisk Extreme IV to my Acer.. Is Sandisk Extreme IV-card working ok? Can you post some benchmark of that card? Can you get full speed of CF-card (45mb/s write)..

I wish I could. The problem with me now is AAO isn't able to perform the POST at all. I checked the BIOS settings and it looks weird (look at printscreen on the previous post). Guess there is some mistake during my mod. (1) I did not have a flipside cable and folded the cable, there are chances that the cable is bent. (2) I did not cut the ZIF-CF board.

Anyone with any idea what should I do ?

Did you put the filter on the ZIF cable?

    Anothing thing...

Just made the latest bios update (v3114) and all went fine...

    HDD speeds remain the same...

Foong123 - How did you fit the adaptor in the AA1 without cutting?

I've tried a different adaptor and cable but my CF card is still seen as a UDMA Mode 4. I've decided to put the SSD back in and use linpus for now while i decide if should keep or sell the AA1. I am going to sell the CF card though, I would return it under DSR but i've opened it so they probably wouldn't take it back :(

My advice to anyone thinking of doing this mod is DON'T it's not worth the outlay and voiding your warranty either be happy using Linpus or if you want Windows buy the AA1 with hard drive and windows.

I'm still after a diffinitive answer to why my 16GB 300x Transcend card isn't recognised as a UDMA Mode 5 with write speeds of 45MB like it should :(

Are you sure it's a genuine Transcend card ? Don't know where you purchased it, but there are a lot of counterfeit cards on eBay...

    Hi, All

My test Transcend 8GB 300x read 44 MB /write 22MB UDMA 5 is base on:

1, Full verison and install Windows XP pro SP3 ( use nlite from sp2 batch to sp3 , no slim function added)
2, Install Intel inf batch for ATOM CPU and 945 chipset
3, Using swap files 512MB on drive C:
4, Not using AntiVirus , ( When install NOd32 antivirus and turn on , it will drop to read 22MB / write 11MB)
    5, Check device manager ,IDE ATA/ATAPI controller : Intel (R) 82801GBM/GHM ( ICH7_M Family ) Serial ATA Storage Controller
6, Check device manager, CPU : It is two ATOM CPU

And I don't have Transcend 16GB 300x on hand , then I can't confrim the reading is not same as 8GB.

    Hi Andy

I've pretty much followed what you've done accept "Install Intel inf batch for ATOM CPU and 945 chipset" and "Check device manager, CPU : It is two ATOM CPU". I installed the official Acer drivers found on this site and they went without hitch. Also would this affect my CF card?

I also believe my 16GB CF to be genuine as it was sealed in original packaging and bought from an etailer no eBay. The link below is the card and place i bought it from.

    http://www.tiktak-it.co.uk/acatalog/16G ... Flash.html

I don't know what else to do :?

I still have my XP installation on the CF card but i have pulled the CF out and put the SSD back in should i try and send it back or just sell it?

I ready install Transcend 8GB 300x CF to replace the int. SSD, it run cold start windows xp pro SP3 (standard install - not slim) at 20 second and shutdown at 14 second.

Did somebody try Transcend 4GB 266x CF ?

    Is 266x slower than 300x ?

Anyone in the US wanna give the A-Data 350x CF cards a spin?

The 8Gb ones are $90 a pop at newegg, at a theoretical read speed of 52MB/sec and theoretical write speed of 47MB/sec, I'd say $11/GB isn't that bad at all.

I'd definitely try it out if newegg shipped to Canada.
