So I have a acer aspire one zg5, and need some help. I purched it used for super cheap with a cracked screen, and as i try to hook it up to vga i get the windows screen, but it doesnt display after it boots. I hear the windows setup music and have tried fn+f5 to get it to switch. The drive he had he wiped, but i used the acer recovery perfectly fine to restore xp onto the drive (which it displayed on my external monitor perfectly) If anyone has an idea how to get it to display so i can get it through the steps let me know! Also if you know where to pick up a new screen in Toronto let me know as well!

    Thanks

Just to clarify, you're trying to switch monitors during the XP setup program?

I dont believe this is possble, BUT,if you connect the external monitor to VGA prior to turning the machine on, in the BIOS you may be able to select the primary display device, that is if the BIOS has the option, worth a look though.

Also, I'm guessing down the track you'll be wanting to replace the cracked LCD screen. If you disassemble the AAO and unplug the LCD monitor, it might then be forced into using the external display only, as neither the BIOS nor the software will be able to detect the LCD.

    EDIT:
    here's a link to an advanced eBay search for LCD's for the ZG5 model http://shop.ebay.com/i.html?_nkw=ZG5+LC ... m270.l1313

Yea i was hoping at finding a way without having to dissassemble the unit again to trick it like that. When i try to get into the bios strangely enough it doesnt load up. Ive been checking ebay for the part but am hoping to find a local one, i hate waiting!

Tapping F2 as soon as you've pressed the power button should bring up the BIOS settings, if you're getting the other options then you're tapping it too late.
