How do I unlock the desktop (take out of kiosk mode?) so that icons can be rearranged.

Can I just check, can other people just grab an icon and move it elsewhere? When I try, it looks like it's going to work, but the icon doesn't move. This means we can't put Skype into one of the first three slots.

Maybe my wife didn't edit that XML file properly? Will check tonight.

Well, I did activate the xfce right-click menu first, but this reorganising feature has always worked for me (found out about the feature by exploration of the desktop mode rather than reading about it).

So I'm guessing it's something in your .xml file ... though I don't know what. Perhaps the Skype icon is on top of another icon? ie you've placed the Skype app in the same place as something else and the secondary icon is the one you're moving?

No icons will drag, but I think you're right and it's probably the XML file is slightly hosed. Will check some time in the next day or so (busy tonight)

I wonder where's the best place to find a pristine version? On the recovery CD somewhere?

Now I am confused. It's working! I really don't think we changed anything, so I haven't got a clue why it didn't work or why it started.

    Oh well.
