    Hello all,
I received a windows Xp based Aspire One for Christmas. I am wanting to try a linux install on it but want to know my recovery options before I go down this road. I have seen that pressing alt+f10 on bootup enters a recovery menu. Will the recovery menu persist and function even if I format the drive while installing a linux OS? I would like to know if I can get back to the out of the box settings if I want to.
    Cheers

There are quite a few posts on this issue. There are some links where you can download files for the restore, but these are not the official restore options (I don't know if they include MS Works and so on).

    Here is the thread: viewforum.php?f=61

You can also order the restore disks from Acer for ~$20 plus at least $10 for shipping (total around $30).

Thanks. What I ended up doing was booting into a live OS, inspected the partition table and backed up the recovery one on an external drive. Of course this may have not been neccessary as partitioning for ubuntu manually allowed me to leave the recovery partition as is. I do not want to test it to reset my system but it should work.

There was an instruction set for this online but I do not have the link.
