These two "tweaks", while not crucial, go a long way toward making the 7 experience feel more "real". They both work flawlessly, and clean up the desktop wonderfully.

    Highly recommended... ;)

Is there a way to do it without running an executable?

Running random programs from untrusted people is a sure way to get a virus or malware.

Not saying there is anything wrong with this particular program, just that I can't trust that it is safe.

Did you not read my post? I have used both of these, and my system is still clean. No problems whatsoever, and I have scanned with Avira and Nod32. I have scanned from myy XP install, and from within 7 itself. They're safe. ;)

FWIW, if you Google "removing Windows watermark", there are tutorials about how to do it manually. They are for Vista, but should work since Vista is the framework for 7. This is A LOT easier, however.

What "compat" mode? Maybe you could elaborate further?

As in "compatibility mode", a setting that allows older programs to sometimes function in a newer Windows OS. For the record, my compatibility mode still works...

Was probably just the program(s) he was trying to run were not compatible with 7 anyway...they do exist...
