Firefox said it should be update so OK (i was running 3.5)

    Then wouldn't load Tried

    Sudo yum ...
    ..Update firefox
    ..install Firefox
    ..reinstall firefox

Nothing worked (nothing to install *or similar)

Sudo Yum remove firefox did work...

However I now dont have a desktop and have no idea how to get back to the terminal to reinstall firefox. Alt+F2 i think used to work but doesn't now

    Any suggestions?
The only think i can do now is use messanger.

Not sure why you no longer have a desktop, but yum install firefox should work (since firefox is no longer installed)

If you don't have a desktop, what do you have on the screen? Will Alt-F2 bring up a run dialog? Will Ctl-Alt-F2 get you to a terminal prompt?

I have a black screen with the bottom bar clicking home give an error about the desktop file being missing. Clock, messanger & wireless network icons show.

    Alt & F2 and CTRL & ALT & f2 does nothing.

Have you rebooted? If not, I'm not suggesting that you do, just asking.

I'm really not familiar enough with how Linpus is configured to advise you regarding what to do next. Personally, I'd probably wipe out Linpus and install Fedora or Ubuntu, but don't take that as a recommendation. You might try searching the forum for situations where users have reported similarly non-working desktops to see if there have been any solutions. Upgrading firefox definitely should not have caused the problem, unless it caused some of the programs and files unique to Linpus to be updated at the same time.
