    Hi,

    i have tried to search for it but didn't get the results to work with...

    basically what i wanted to do is to change the aa1's name 'localhost' to something more personal...so its going to look like this...

    Code:
    user@localhost$ --> bestuserever@mostincredibilemachine$
    I browsed a lot and found a way to change the users name...it did not change the name of the home directory, but i could live with that...so how can i rename localhost?

    I am quite new to linux and especially to linpus...so every little bit of information is much appreciated...thx

    edit:
    I tried to overwrite /etc/HOSTNAME but with restart it was back to usual...whaat can i do?
    /edit

    I believe all you have to do is edit the file hostname in /etc to reflect whatever you would like for a hostname

    Also look at /etc/hosts and check the entry for 127.0.0.1 make sure it reflect the change as well

    Good luck.

    Heh. I expected the normal approach to work as well - until I tried it! Linpus isn't exactly normal Linux :)
