    So, with Thunderbird and Gmail what kind of secure connection I have to use?

    POP >>>> SSL >>>> 995 port >>>> pop.gmail.com

    smtp >>>> TLS, if aviable >>>> 25 port >>>>smtp.gmail.com

    are those correct?
    why it doesn't work?

    Im encountering the self-same problem; Thunderbird simply does... nothing when I try to connect to my gmail accounts - in both POP and IMAP. The one thing I've noticed is that it will at least try to connect to the server if it is not using SSL.

    Would really appreciate a help out with this!

    @alexabcd:
    The Smtp port You are using is incorrect. try :port 587
    for pop it is 995.
    Has anyone found a solution for the "minimize to tray" proplem of thunderbird.
    It looks like in the whole web is no solution to this.

    With this modif I've managed to get Thunderbird, for which many thanks, but only accessible through Advanced Menu (Network), the Bird icon doesn't appear on the desktop, which is a pity. Everything else works apparently as, once configured, I'm receiving mail. I think the problem may have something to do with an update to the AA1's programming because where B. James wrote "Find the line that begins <app sequence="3" acs="email">", the code was not exactly the same - there was no "3" acs="email">. I just went ahead and changed AME.desktop to mozilla-thunderbird.desktop, as instructed. Is there any way of getting the Tbird icon to appear on the desktop?
    Best,

    Mike
