Could it be an idea to list all Acer modified packages in yum.conf, to prevent accidentally upgrading them? Like 'exclude=*lp *lp.0*'. Would this be enough? But how can we know the rpms with unchanged names?

Then there is the Acer updates. Are they done strictly by rpm or do they have some binary/manual file replacement patches as well? I haven't examined the patches.

I do not want to try it. I already reinstalled AAO Linpus OS 3 times :)
Think there must be special tool made for full backuping system.

Thanks for the link to the dependency info.

I have only had my A1 for a few days but the first thing I do wherever possible is to make a backup.
Windoze or Linux - both the same, a Barts bootable with Acronis ver.9
The A1 boots nicely from the Barts, which is on a memory stick, and I back up to a USB hard drive.
The archive runs to 2.5 GB so it might be possible to backup to a memory stick, however this might be a bit slow.
