My internal 8mb solid state hard drive barely has any programs on it, yet the mere act of using Windows fills up the hard disk with who knows what crap. I have deleted all sorts of temporary files, cleaned up disk, etc., yet it has kept filling up to the point of being unusable. Is there anything at all I can do to remove whatever crap that stupid Windows insists on cramming on my hard drive against my will? I mean, I cannot even download or remove programs there is so little disk space left!

That is NOT normal windows behavior. I've been using my AAO 8gb SSD for almost a year now, it has not filled up at all. Still uses just about 2gb of the SSD. Check for viruses, trojans... there are some that keeps on eating up your drive space to the point wherein it's unusable. Post a list of your running processes, and apps that run on your startup(use msconfig). Also try to make everything visible.. hidden files, system files. Look at all the folder properties, see w/c one is eating the most of your drive space.... Post your results we'll try to narrow down what's causing your problems.

Media player does not cache the videos.... have you tried CCLEANER? It does a very good job in identifying junk on your system and removes them.

I remember Norton used to fill a friend's computer up due to the quarantine feature. You should probably scan for viruses.
