I picked up a Aspire One 150 (XP, 120G HD, 1 Gig) yesterday, and I absolutely love it... except...

The WiFi is PAINFULLY slow. Sitting next to my Dell laptop showing an excellent connection, my lil' Aspire One shows weak connection, and doing some testing wired and wireless shows:

    Wired:
    20230.68 kbps - down, wired
    975.16 kbps - up, wired

    Wireless:
    120.11 kbps - down
    31.71 kbps - up

    Wired:

My drivers are all up to date. Anyone else having this problem? I hope it can be resolved, because slow wifi is a deal-killer.

Try go into your router and adjust your beacon interval to a lower number.. eg. 20-25 range. THat should increase the network throughtput a bit. BTW 1000+ms ping time is rediculous.

So this is weird... when the AspireOne is plugged in, it hums along quickly as can be. When I unplug it, I get time-warped to the land before high speed internet. The problem only occurs when unplugged.

I figured it out, I went to Control Panel->System Devices->Networking->Atheros...->Advanced, then choose Power Save Mode and choose normal. I guess when unplugged it lowers the power to the radio and kills the speed. I don't understand how there's not a lot of posts on this already, but I hope this helps others.

i posted about a similar problem (http://www.aspireoneuser.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=34&t=2489) but hadnt read this thread!

Thats how i fixed it too but in my case i had to switch Power Save Mode to Off to be able to use it in a different room that the router.

Same here, setting power save to "normal" only helped marginally if at all, setting it to "off" gives me full speed. I'm not noticing any obvious decrease in battery life.

Ahhh thank you for this. I couldn't figure out why the internet was so slow and how playing mp3's off of my network would always skip on my AAO. Now everything works great!

This thread needs to be stickied. Turning off powersave decreased my latency by so much, it's not even funny.
