Hi ... newbie again, I want to make sure I have covered as many eventualities as possible for internet connection, I guess wifi will be the most often available / convenient but what is the R45 socket for, connecting to a regular wired modem ? ... can I connect direct to a telephone socket and dial-up with an adaptor Regards Roger

RJ-45 is to connect wired LAN. For modem use you suppose to have RJ-11. AA1 is not supporting wired modem w/o additional stuff (like USB modems etc.).
