    Hello All,
I am at a computer club meeting and someone has just recommended an interesting program with which he is very impressed.
Sanboxie is a program that allows you to run any program, especially IE and your mail client, in a sandbox which completely isolates said program from the rest of the system. Apparently, it works by intercepting all write requests including registry writes and sending them to dummy destinations.
It can be configured so that, for instance, if you run only IE in it, you can set Sandboxie to quit when you close IE thus returning your system to the state it was in before you started.
    More information from http://www.sandboxie.com/.
Discaimer: I am not affiliated with Sandboxie and do not even use Windows.

    Cheers,
    Mike
