I am trying to run a game (Monopoly) on my AAO to while away the time on long flights etc. It runs fine on another PC under XP but that PC's screen area is 1280 x 800 whereas the highest setting I can get on the AAO is 1024 x 600.

When I run the game the edge of the screen is cut off and it makes it pretty well unplayable. There is not, so far as I can see an option within the game to adjust the resolution setting. Can I get the AAO to display 1280 x 800 (I realise that this is asking a bit much for a 8.9" screen!) or is there another way to fix this?

No as AA1 LCD physically is capable of displaying 1024x600 only...

You can do 1024x768 on the lcd screen by installing A1ctl from
    http://nodadev.wordpress.com/

it is also mentioned how to install it and such on this forum, just do a search for "a1ctrl" it is a utility that controls fan speed, system temp and also adds a couple of screen resolutions. - 1024x768 will be a scrolling screen because physically the lcd doesn't have sufficient pixels to display it without scrolling up and down.

Higher resolutions are available by using an external display unit

Thanks for your help but my problem is slightly different. The AAO already has a 1024x680 screen resolution and I'd like a utility that would let me run an application that requires 1200x800 resolution. As I understand it, the application you refer to has 1024x680 as its highest resolution.

Would it, or do you know of another utility that would, give the effect of 1200x800 resolution on the AAO by scrolling?

    Thanks,
    Bill

You know what the Stones said about getting what you want, well you can't get exactly 1200x800, but you can get much bigger.
Do you know how to change your screen resolution using windows settings? Right click on your desktop (somewhere that is open, not on top of an icon) A box with a list of items appears, select the bottom choice "properties" by clicking on it. Now click on the tab on the far right "settings" - a slider will appear - slide the bar over until you have a number that suits you. Click apply and then confirm when the system asks, and bob's your uncle.

That should give you enough room to play monopoly (Bill Gates favorite game) and solitare at the same time.
