I read here that it's confirmed that there's support for adding up to a 32GB SDHC card...

    http://aspireoneuser.com/forum/viewtopi ... =58&t=5868

    I was looking at:
Transcend 16GB SDHC Class 6 Memory Card
But for only a little amount more I can get:
SANDISK ULTRA II SD 16GB 15MBS

My question is, will a 16GB SD card be supported and if so will that card be much faster than the SDHC one?

I'm not sure about the speeds or the 32 Gb SDHC's but I am using a 16Gb SDHC as my home partition and running Mandriva 2009 Gnome and it works great.

I was looking at the same card, and I don't think that there is a difference...only someone got lazy and forgot the HC portion. Any SD card over 8GB, I believe has HC on it.....either way, if you can afford it, go with high write speed...although with the way flash memory prices are decreasing you could probably get a SanDisk 16GB SDHC Extreme (30mb/s write speed) for about half in a few months (currently $130 for it...)

    SDHC OK for a 110 ZD5 expansion?

I think so from reading various posts, but a 110 review from August specifically says this most basic model does NOT take the SDHC cards, and the manual also just says SD. It seems some people have had erratic performance with them- I bought a pricy SanDisk Ultra II 8gig Class 4, 15mb/s; and want to be sure before I tear open package. Got the beasty in Ukraine and love it, except the guy who designed the thin verticle mouse buttons should be horsewhipped.

Just nitpicking here, but all SD cards more than 2GB (4, 8, 16GB) are SDHC.

All SD card are not SDHC. SD and SDHC are two different formats and are not interchangable thus there's no SD card that's greater than 2GB simply because it's the maximum addressing capacity for a SD card. SDHC supports capacity of greater than 128GB.

The relationship of SD and SDHC is similar to 32bit and 64bit addressing mode for your operating system or CPU.
The maximum addresss value is 4096MB for an 32bit address

SD cards and SDHC cards have different formats and while it is true that some SD readers can not read SDHC this is not true of the readers in the AAO. Both card readers in the AAO can read and write to both SD and SDHC cards. The readers that can not read SDHC cards will be found on older machines and cameras.

Since we're nitpicking, not "all" cards greater than 2GB are SDHC. They are supposed to be but there are some cards out there that aren't. OCZ did have some 4GB cards that weren't SDHC (their original 150x had them).

    adding SD memory to XP

I have the stock XP version AAO.

Can I simply add a SD card to my machine to add to the on-board RAM?

Which of the 3 card slots shall I use?

    Thanks!

    Hi bukzin

The simple answer to your question is no. The only way you can upgrade RAM is by dismantiling the aspire. There are several video's on youtube on how to do it but there is a difference between the HD version and the 8GB SSD version so make sure you follow the correct one.If you have XP you presumably have a hard disk. An SD card inserted in the left hand slot will effectively give you another drive the size of the card. Probably not worth bothering about.

    Best wishes
