I just upgraded my Aspire one from linix to Windows XP, my unit has the 8gb ssd drive. I have added a SD HC card and want to have windows see it has a hard drive so that I can install programs on it when I run out of space on the 8gb ssd drive. Curretly the sd hc card shows up as a removable drive which will not let me intall ant programs on it. I think I have to edit the xp registry to mount it as a hard drive.

    Any help woul be great

I have the same issue - I installed an 8gb sdhc card into the expansion slot and windows says "found new hardware - base system device" but doesn't know how to install it.

When I got the thing they said all I had to do was insert the card in the slot and it would automagically expand the 8gb to 16. What gives? How do I make it work?

My One originally came with linpus, but I installed windows. Am I missing a driver?

Linpus has special software to add the content of the left SD card reader to the content of the SSD. When you changed to Windows you lost that option the SDHC card should show up as a drive in My Computer. However it will not show up in Windows if it is formated in a Linux format without special software.

I can install and run programs just fine off of my SD cards. How, exactly, is Windows "not letting" you install programs to the SD card?

You might be referring to how Linux simply treats the left SD card reader as just another part of the main SSD drive. Windows assigns each SD or other removable storage media a drive letter; choose that letter when installing programs...

It recognizes it now as another drive, but it gave me error messages the first two times I installed it. Pretty wacky.
