I am new to the Acer Aspire One and as a result, would appreciate if you could help with the following basic question:

Having accessed terminal via my computer and changed my root password, I am now attempting to add/remove programs with a view to installing a firewall/spyware, given that this is really necessary. Does firewall protection already exist? In addition, the root password used is not being recognised when attempting to add new programs, can you explain why that would be, clearly I am doing something wrong.

    Thanks.

You use "sudo" with Linpus which temporarily elevates you "user" to superuser status when you wish to do things that only root can do.

As to being worried about spyware - no such thing with Linux. Don't waste your time worrying about it.

As to a firewall - Linpus doesn't have iptables compiled within its kernel, so there is no way to implement a firewall. Again, I wouldn't lose sleep over it, as you can control what services you want running and they are what opens ports on your box.

    Cheers.

So still every firewall software for fedora needs the iptables...no chance a softwarewall works for the 110l, right ;)

iptables is the firewall. All the GUI apps available simply control iptables and allow one to more easily configure iptables rather than having to do it from a command line.

    Cheers.
