I have the AAO. At home our wifi uses WPA2, at work we have an unsecured wifi.

Out TCP/IP is set to automatic. I take it to work and it connects fine, but when I get home it has NOT updated the DNS numbers, so most websites won't work as it times out before the response.

How can I get it to correctly connect WPA2 HERE, and unsecured THERE?

I have the latest BIOS and Wifi drivers.

    WinXP Home (pre-installed)

Think you would have to setup the networks separately. You can have it set to autologin to both, as long as you can't see your work network from your house.

If I understand the issue correctly, you need to set them up individually from within the network manager.

Not sure what you mean by automatic? My Acer One is set to connect to my home system WPA and it always quickly pops up. When I'm on the road as I am while I write this (PHX), my Acer will grab almost any unprotected wireless network. I suspect the ones I have trouble with may have MAC issues.

OK - the problem is not the WiFi itself, sorry, it's getting the network address and DNS numbers. When I come back home it does NOT get the DNS. It uses the DNS from work and it's too slow through another ISP.

When you get home, try the following from the DOS command line or from the Start|Run... menu:

    ipconfig /flushdns

Do you suspend or hibernate at work and then just resume when you get back home? If so, then rebooting at home or flushing the DNS cache as described above will probably do the trick.

On Linux, you can flush the DNS cache by restarting the nscd daemon:

    sudo /etc/init.d/nscd restart

Thinking back, I probably DID hibernate before going home, so I guess it's not able to update by itself. I assumed it would since it is an entirely new connection. Oh well......

I created a batch file to flush and renew the DNS, and installed 'Hibernate Trigger' for each user to launch it.

Seems to work fine so far. If problems, there will be further updates.

    Thanks! :D

I wonder if switching the wifi off and then on again using the slider switch on the front/right corner would be sufficient to restart the WLAN connection properly?

Sometimes, for no reason, my auto find doesn't quite take hold correctly. At home (unprotected) or at my neighbors (protected). All I do is right click on the wireless icon in the task tray and tell it to "repair". It then disconnects, resets all the settings, finds the strongest signal, reconnects and I am back up and running. It remembers all the "protected" settings when at my neighbors house too. Have you tried the "repair" feature?

Oh - it's not for me. I reset the wireless or just 'repair'. Other than that it's just a little annoying.

It's for the wife and daughters. They like things to just work.
