    Hi,

    I am interested in having some mod's done to my AAo, however being a girl i'm not very good at DIY :)

    I was wondering if anyone knows of any shops i can take my Aspire to, or any individuals who will do the modifications for a fee. The main mod i am looking for is the soilderless touch screen, and while the laptop is in bits upping the ram, shoving in one of my micro bluetooth dongles and maybe (but not to fussed about) a hard drive upgrade... 320gb 7200 if it'll fit. The 3G mod also is enticing but again only if its easy to do while the machine is alreay in bits...

    If anyone knows of anyone who can do these upgrades at a resonable fee of course, please post here as i will be first in line... probably with a few of my other friends who also have AAO's.

    If not, i suppose i can ask my I.T guy t work if he could do it for me... Hopefully some one can help or point me in the wright direction.

    Thanks again,

    Nat Xx

    49.95 for the first mod, 10.00 each mod after the first. You provide the parts. The ram upgrade labor would be free with any other mod.

    I sell the parts to perform the 3G mod but it is too labor intensive to perform for people. So I would recommend you either buy a 3G model or skip the 3G mod.

    so the labor would look like this;
    TS = 49.95
    Hard drive = 10.00
    Ram = free
    internal BT = 10.00
    Total = 69.95

    Hi,

    That sounds great, Thanks for the quick response ... :) xx

    So all i need to do is supply the parts?

    Right then, i know it wants 667mhz ram 1gb stick so i presume ill just check ebay for that, the touch screen, and i have a micro usb already... HDD again ebay i presume is my best bet...

    That sounds great and reasonable price,
    ideally though i was hoping to just give it to someone, have them do everything, then bill me with parts and labour prior to giving it me back... save me buying the wrong parts etc... but im sure i can order the right parts. Although i bought oil once for my car and it was 0-5 or something and i ended up having to get a full service as it was supposedly like water and nearly killed my engine :)

    Right, ill check ebay etc and see what i can find, im the mean time if you know of somewhere/someone that will just take my one off me, do everything then bill me for parts/labour etc when complete pleeeeease let me know :) i could probably give a deposit etc up front as well as give them the laptop if required... would need to know there not going to steal it or my money though ;-) Xx

    I can provide the parts, and since I know which parts NOT to use, I will gladly provde the parts.

    I will have to determine the cost of the Seagate hard drive I have on hand. Here are the rest of the costs.
    Toptouchscreen solderless touchscreen with small usb hub = 80.00
    Crucial 1GB 200-Pin DDR2 SO-DIMM DDR2 667 = 18.00
    Seagate 320gb sata 2.5 5400rpm = ?
    100m bluetooth usb dongle with wiring (I only use the 100m model), this includes the BT software = 10.00

    I cannot resist pointing out the the AAO modder supreme is tnkgrl so while it may be true that you aren't great at DIY, some girls clearly are. I think of myself as being pretty good at electrical mods (I'm a man BTW), but I wouldn't dare attempt some of the stuff tnkgrl has done.

    i really expected that within weeks of a touchscreen being available on the market for AA1s, Ebay would be flooded with AA1s ready-touchscreen-modded. And I was looking forward to it, but somehow that did not happen. Shame. One thing is sure: I won't do it myself! going quickly through the touchscreen thread and seeing the amount of problems that can bring really puts me off. That's from someone who built his desktop PC from scratch... :oops:

    LOL.. I'll provide you with cheaper stuff with links:
    T.S solderless = $80 - usb hub price
    Crucial 1GB DDR2 SODIMM -$11.99 before tax with free shipping
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6820145048
    Hitachi 320GB HDD - $68.99 before tax with free shipping
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6822145228
    100m bluetooth usb dongle - $5 at the most with software + wiring + free shipping
    go to dealextreme.com and there's at least 50 ones to choose from.
    small usb hub
    go on dealextreme.com and there's tonnes of selection for cheap price.

    I can mod everything for you for $5 (excluding shipping and parts) or something if you wanted. I live in Canada so shipping will be more expensive so it might not be worth it. Though computer parts a cheaper in Canada.

    Well, certainly $5.00 to do modifications on the AAO is a great price.

    I would highly recommend using the services of someone who has done these mods before, and for $5.00 why would anyone want to try these mods themself?

    Trust me anyone doing these mods themselves, will spend more than the $5.00 for extra stuff like heat shrink, solder, kapton tape, and USB connectors.

    I would jump on Jackluo923's pricing in a heartbeat.

    LOL.. for starters, it'll cost more than $5.00 (probably much more since good "extra stuff" will cost upwards of $100) for those extra stuff. But for a person who has done numerous mods, those things barely cost anything.

    Heatshrink plastic sleeve: 1 cent
    Solder: 1 cent
    Sodlering gun: $0
    Electrical Tape: 1c
    Usb connector: Probably will not be used to mod the AAO. But if it's required, a quick removal from a dead computer motherboard will do the trick. -$0
    Electicity used for A/C during modding + electricity used by the soldering gun - $1.00
    Time: Priceless

    Total: $1.03 + priceless time lost (less than 30 minutes)
    :lol:

    Anyways.. shipping and parts will be the bulk spending.
    Expect upwards of $100 on the parts and $25-50 shipping depending on where you live. For $150, even if you don't charge anything of significant amount for labor, will not be worth it. $150 is about 1/2 to 1/3 of the price of a new Acer Aspire One.It's another story if you're showing off the netbook though. For a little bit more than double the price ($400), I was able to build myself a quadcore desktop with 4GB of ram and 750GB hdd, DVD-RW and an awesome case that cost $80 alone.
