I recently bought an Acer Aspre One ZG5 model. It's very cute but I can't believe it's so slow! Is this normal? It can take up to a minute to load a page when searching online. Also when I move the mouse across the screen, the view size changes constantly which is very annoying and frustrating - for instance by moving the mouse while I'm typing now the screen has gone from 100% to 170 to 190 to 10 and is now back to 190. Does anyone have any ideas or solutions please? I had originally bought this little notepad to keep in my bag when I'm travelling but unfortunately my main laptop has developed a problem and I am having to rely on this alone for the time being.
The RAM is 1GB and the storage is 16GB.

OK I just registered about 10 minutes ago (looking for bios upgrade and other solutions) so I would wait for more for better help. When I had XP installed on my ZG5 it was super slow. You can wait for 5 minutes so everything loads before using the netbook for the first time. That's help a little. Or install a netbook Linux dirtro. I installed EEEBUNTU about 8 months ago and found it to be 100% faster. Now I'm about to try another distro becasue I have problems with my wifi working and I can NEVER use the netbook on the battery. If I unplug the power cord it shuts off immediately. Has anyone ever experienced that?

My ZG5 as supplied with Linpus was OK, speed wise, but would not recognise my USB broadband dongle.

The installation of Win XP took ages, and ran frustratingly slow, but it did recognize the dongle. Quite soon XP crashed and I could not recover it. Tried installation of XP again (from external USB optical drive) and now I have a dead machine. Nothing on screen when I try to boot. I suspect this happened when I changed the boot order to USB to reinstall XP. I have posted about this elsewhere in this forum.

Can you explain this in more detail please? I don't understand what you mean... It sounds like something is seriously wrong and that shouldn't happen, so perhaps fixing that problem will make everything ok.

Managed to recover the BIOS on my machine and installed Flashfire as suggested by TantalusFld. Amazing, machine is much faster. In fact I quite like it now.

    Thanks for the suggestion TantalusFld.

TantalusFld, I can not believe how fast my netbook is running since I installed Flashfire. It's a miracle. I have the ZG5 version with 8gb ssb and 8gb sd. It's running fast enough now where I can actually use this thing. Seriously I bought this last Christmas and used it maybe 5 times. I even installed Windows 7 and it's running fast. Now I need to install a stick of ram and I'll be set.

    Thanks again!

Of course FlashFire is amazing. It worked a miracle on my A110 also (turning it from an annoying to use machine to super speedy, at least a 2x reduction in boot up time, and a hefty boost to general responsiveness, etc.).

Give that, I think it's a real shame that companies like Acer aren't putting that type of SSD drivers in their machines by default.

Isn't that a shame? Because the majority of users will never find out their machine could've been 2x as fast by simply installing a 100 kb program.
