    Hi

I have just bought a new AA1blue windows XP 1GB RAM version. I was not sure exactly what was meant to be supplied but there are no cd roms or software in the box. Is this normal or should there have been windows discs or any other discs? I know the AA1 has its own recovery software so I suppose there is no need for anything else. All the usual software is preinstalled on the hard drive.

No, they did not ship with recovery CD's, they expect you to recover your system from the eRecovery program which access the files from a hidden partition on your hard drive. That option doesn't help much if you install a new hard drive that doesn't have the partition on it. You can however order the CD's from Acer. Mine are winging their way to me right now.

Thanks caulktel.....much obliged! However I wonder if it is always possible to recover the system using the eRecovery program.

Well, It's only possible if that recovery partition is in tact, if you damage it somehow, (like playing around with Linux) then you're in trouble. That is why I ordered the CD's. If you could mirror that partition to a thumb drive or something, I suppose you could always copy it back, but for me, having the CD's is much easier.

Do you just call them and ask for the recovery disks or do you have to pay big bucks? Thanks.

No, they never said anything about paying, just said he would ship them out and gave me a conformation number.

Are there any magic words that one needs to use? I have noticed that some people seem to get them with no problem and others have encountered resistance from the Acer reps. Does it have to do with how long ago you bought your AAO? Mine is about three weeks old.

    Thanks.

Yes, because they do have them listed for sale on the website, which reports $20 + $10 shipping for my model.

I think it depends on who you get on the other end of the phone, because I had problems registering mine, (their website kept saying my serial number was invalid) so I called their customer service number and when he got it all sorted out he asked me if there was anything else he could do for me, so I said yes, I need the recovery CD's, so he says, no problem we will ship them out. I got them 8 days later on Fed Ex no charge.
