I've just purchased an Acer AO532-451G16i Aspire One 10inch Netbook in Australia.

I've tried to download Skype a few times to no avail. Apparently there has always been a problem downloading Skype on the Aspire One. I've found some old advice online and even a Youtube video. Still doesn't work for me.

I can't claim to be particularly clued up as this is my first ever computer.

I'd appreciate it if anyone had a simple solution to this and could talk me through it.

    Thanks.

Is this with Windows or Linux? You can try to use the Package Manager on whichever Linux distro you're using; I assume it's still Linpus with these?

    Thanks for your advice.

Dunno what I did different but at about the 20th attempt at downloading Skype I did it.

    Seems to be working OK.

    Spoke too soon on this.

Skype downloaded OK but virtually unusable.

Whenever I try and use Skype I get the 'Computer Is Running Slowly' message and 2 yellow bars. After a few seconds or minutes of sound only conversation I get a 'Blue Screen Error'. (Blue screen of death I think is the techie name) The computer crashes and starts some sort of system dump. I'm running on mains power with nothing else open like Skype suggests.

I know its only a Netbook and I don't expect much. Skype is the main reason I bought it though.
Are Netbooks up to running Skype? Is 1GB RAM sufficient. It should be according to Skype.
Is it worth trying to download an older version of Skype.

    Thanks, Kevin.
