Anybody loaded Skype yet? I went to the Skype for Linux site, but I'm an absolute newbie in Linux, and not very techie anyway -- which type of download do you use? Is Skype too big a file -- will it hog this little machine? About to go on a nice long vacation, and we'd love to Skype our way around telephone calls back home...

seems some can load skype and others can't....i can't. someone please help. am getting a bit skypesperate (withdrawal)! fedora is downloaded and installed but i can't find an icon anyplace! help!
you have to install the Skype icon into group-app.xml yourself. There are several threads on this board how to to this, and one on Youtube. It does work.
found some of it myself, you activate advanced mode so that you can right click and find all your installed apps including skype. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-CmbYrvt ... re=related how to put it onto the desktop i cannae tell.
Got skype working - lots of warnings and stuff about unsigned programs etc etc - I assume its ok to ignore these!?
open a terminal and at the command line enter: sudo mousepad /home/user/.config/xfce4/desktop/group-app.xml This opens the file in mousepad so it can be edited. Remove the !-- at the beginning of the line that lists skype and the -- at the end, as these symbols either end indicate a line to be ignored . Next change the app sequence number in quotes to one that is different from all the rest in that section i.e 8. If you dont do this right you may end up with icons over other icons, just jiggle em about til they're right. Any probs mail me. Heres a screen shot of my config...
