    Re: SlCKB0Y/Kuki kernel 2.6.28 Release

I'm not sure if the situation has changed any as it's been a while since I tried SickBoy/Kuki's kernel, but can anyone tell me if the appropriate firewall drivers have been compiled in? Last time I tried it, ufw failed due to missing drivers that were needed on my Ubuntu 8.10 Acer.

    Hi !

And really THANK YOU for this kernel, I was a little bit disapointed by this aspire one, but now, it's incredible, My xubuntu is so fast ! Maybe I'll try to install gnome, I've got only 512 mb and don't want to change this ( I've got a free two years guaranty ), but if it works fine with gnome, I'll be the almost-happiest man in the world.

Because I would use my acer to play sample and virtual instruments, and for that I need a low latency kernel with the usb audio...

Maybe, if you have the time... You could do that, I'm sure I'm not the only one who want to use his netbook like this.

And if you need any sort of help to achieve this idea, I can do.

But before that, thanks again !

    Re: SlCKB0Y/Kuki kernel 2.6.28 Release

Just out of curiosity, once you've installed an alternate kernel, what's the best way to keep the system from continually prompting me to update to the latest version of the standard one?

    Re: SlCKB0Y/Kuki kernel 2.6.28 Release

As far as I know, you are offered the update due to the fact that the package manager knows that your previous kernel is still installed on your system.
So a way to not be prompted for updates would be to remove/uninstall the previous version.

On the other hand, if you do an update, this will not activate the previous version. Things remain as they were with the alternate kernel still being the one used after re-boot.
So in case you would need to go back to an older kernel version, you would have a fully updated version available.

Hope this clarifies things for you.

    Peter.

    Re: SlCKB0Y/Kuki kernel 2.6.28 Release

I'm trying to install the kernel following instruction in tutorial

    Am getting following error
cannot access archive: No such file or directory

At first I thought it was an error in the tutorial which refers to sudo dpkg -i --force-architecture linux-image-2.6.28_Sickboy.Kuki.0.1_i386.deb
which I think should be sudo dpkg -i --force-architecture linux-image-2.6.28_Sickboy.Kuki.0.2_i386.deb.
However this doesn't solve the problem the two files have downloaded to my home directory and I am trying to run therm from there

Here's a hint: start typing the filename then press the tab key. With some (but not all) commands the shell will insert the rest of the filename for you. If it doesn't work try entering more of the filename then trying again.

    Re: SlCKB0Y/Kuki kernel 2.6.28 Release

I believe you want to remove madwifi then install the Sickboy kernel. Also, you can just browse to the kernel in Nautilus then double click it and tell it to use DEBIAN package manager to isntall it..

Lock the current version in synaptic (sorry, I haven't looked at what it does to the apt files, and my AOA150 got hit by the black screen of non-starting, so it's into the shop it goes)

heads up... you may need cdc_acm support for your phone to work as a modem. At least for Nokia phones.

    Re: SlCKB0Y/Kuki kernel 2.6.28 Release

    Got everything working by running

    make uninstall madwifi

Since alot of people will have follwed the instructions here
    https://help.ubuntu.com/community/AspireOne

And therefore will hvae installed madwifi, it might be an idea to mention this in the Kuki tutorial

    Hi
    I'm currently running kernel 2.6.28-rc8-custom-aa1.

What is the benefit to upgrading to linux-image-2.6.28-sickboy-kuki_0.2_i386.deb.

Also what is the best way to do the upgrade ??
    Thanks :)

Where did you get "2.6.28-rc8-custom-aa1"? I'd like to try that but of course you can't search this forum for that...

    Re: SlCKB0Y/Kuki kernel 2.6.28 Release

That is the release candiate #8 for 2.6.28 -- therefore I'd move up as Sickboy's is based off the released version.

    Re: SlCKB0Y/Kuki kernel 2.6.28 Release

    Hi Sickboy,

thank you for the great work. The sound works by me without any problem. Even the mic is working. It is a little bit to quite during recording, but with alsamixer i could fix that too. I have installed the kernel on a fresh 8.10 ibex easy peasy installation and it works everything out of the box.

I have only one favour to aks you for the latest .config file, because i want to compile a few more futures of my own.

So, it would be great if you could provide it for all people who are interessted in.

Thanks in advanced and have a nice evening
    Stefan

should be no problem. It doesn't matter which display manager you will use.

    Best regards
