Is anyone else having problems with random kernel panics (if that's what the blinking caps-led means) Not sure what it is, and I don't know how to find out either... Running the sickboy-kernel without the madwifi-drivers, maybe it's the wifi-driver?

    I got myself a AA1 110, with atheros nic

I am getting slow rates over wifi, would I be better installing the madwifi package rather than using ath5k ?

I work with madwifi on a custom kernel (based on sickboy's kernel) and I have much better rates and more stability now.

i've just installed Ubuntu UMPC on my AAO and really want this kernel.

The links on the website are down, can anyone else host the file on a temp basis? or upload it to a free host somewhere?

I still wonder, how do I add support for usb audio? I need the module and a way to make the kernel use it. And I'm clueless about both things.
    Any suggestion or relevant link?

    Did you set up undervolting?
If so, try raising the voltages a bit - sounds like what happens when they are set too low.

Re: SlCKB0Y Kernel 2.6.28 Downloads - Update with Website!

Thanks sickboy for sharing your work! I've been looking for a config file for 2.6.28 to tweak :)

That said, a question to the general kernel-hacking public maybe one of you will know what's going on.

I have a fully working compiled 2.6.27 kernel from a while back, I used make-kpkg for it and it installs and boots like a charm. But when I tried to compile 2.6.28 with the same config file, I get an error about it not finding "modules.dep" in the /lib/modules/2.6.28.. folder. I thought I screwed up the config, so I tried sickboys - no joy.

I read online that its a known initram/initd issue with Debian but then I wouldn't be the only one unable to use sickboy's kernel.

Anyone else have any other ideas, I'm a bit stuck :)

It's not life threatening, since I have a working older kernel.. it's just bugging me :)

Thanks again all for a good thread!

    "Unable to find /lib/modules/.../modules.dep"

Are talking about the dmesg thrown very early in boot?

I have not even bothered tracking this issue down, since the modules needed to boot are compiled in.

If you don't boot, is it possible you have a file system not compiled in? If so you have an easy work around.

I would not be surprised if many like me have this issue, and just don't care. It is meaningless after / is mounted.

Re: SlCKB0Y Kernel 2.6.28 Downloads - Update with Website!

Thanks for the quick reply - that helps me understand what I've been reading a bit better :)

I think you're probably right, what has been confusing me is that while it would boot as normal - not all modules would load. That said it's probably something I did :) I'll keep digging then

    Thanks again

Re: SlCKB0Y Kernel 2.6.28 Downloads - Update with Website!

sickboy: I'm sure you're right and that it's a fairly benign error message for now, I wouldn't worry too much about it :) It was just the first thing that jumped out at me when I saw some problems with the kernel, could be completely unrelated

EDIT: new funny problem - I have a particular talent for them :) With sickboy's kernel my bash doesn't work inside my KDE session. If I switch to a console screen with alt+F1 everything there works fine. With other kernels (stock and my compiled .27) no problems.

Re: SlCKB0Y Kernel 2.6.28 Downloads - Update with Website!

Well I recompiled my own .28 kernel based on sickboy's config and some changes and ta there's yer bash hanging again. Not sure why it's not happening to everyone, but for anyone else having problems with bash the workaround is to place the following in /etc/rc.local

    Code:
    mount -t devpts devpts /dev/pts

    Hello!

Is there a way to recompile Sickboy's Kernel so that i can use my Nokia E51 as a 3G/UMTS Modem via USB-cable? Or better, wich options should i add? It works with the standard Ubuntu Kernel but not with the (after all, best Kernel i used on my AAO) Sickboy one.

    Thanks!

    :) Sure there is

in the .config file look for

    Code:
    #
    # USB Device Class drivers
    #
    #CONFIG_USB_ACM is not set

Change the line with USB_ACM to

    Code:
    #
    # USB Device Class drivers
    #
    CONFIG_USB_ACM=m

Is there a simple way to setup Verizon broadband modem (UM175 USB) with SICKBOY 2.6.28?
