If the directory 'misc' did not previously exist you have done the wrong thing
If misc doesnt exist your cp would copy the file named acerhdf.ko to a file (not a directory) name 'misc' in the 'drivers' directory.

Re: SlCKB0Y Kernel 2.6.28 Downloads - Update with Website!

    *Sigh*

    Do a ls /lib/modules/2.6.28sickboy-kuki/kernel/drivers/misc
Does anything show up in there? no, of course it doesnot because its your renamed acerhdf.ko you copied there earlier

Just to check, if the ls command above showed nothing try a rmdir /lib/modules/2.6.28sickboy-kuki/kernel/drivers/misc
im betting you get a 'not a directory' error

    then rm misc
    mkdir misc
    cp acerhdf.ko /lib/modules/2.6.28sickboy-kuki/kernel/drivers/misc

The other thing to check is that ou are using the kernel of this name

    To SlCKB0Y

    I have install your new kernel.It's O.K!
    But when I do:

    Code:
    sudo apt-get install build-essential linux-headers-$(uname -r)
    I see:

    Code:
    Reading package lists... Done
    Building dependency tree
    Reading state information... Done
build-essential is already the newest version.
    E: Couldn't find package linux-headers-2.6.28.3.2009033

What I need to do? Where can I download linux-headers-2.6.28.3.2009033 ?
    Thanks!
p.s. Sorry my bad english ...

Re: SlCKB0Y Kernel 2.6.28 Downloads - Update with Website!

    Not everyone uses jaunty
    Faster boot time
    Smaller footprint
Better card reader support (pciehp as module not built in)
    Acerhdf available

And if i had released my kernel with acerhdf a few weeks ago it would have prevented you whining [edited] on page 28 that you couldnt get it to work.

It's probably because he has got fed up with people like you making unnecessary and foolish remarks.

He has put a lot of work and his own time into this kernal which has helped many many people who cannot do those sorts of things for themselves.

I for one am very grateful for his continued work on it which has made my Aspire One a really useful tool for me.

So a little thought before you post such remarks as yours would be good.

Thanks for your continued work on this kernal sickboy.

I didnt do any unnecessary and foolish remark, i just what to say that who have Jaunty installed dont need this kernel.
I have to remeber that is not first time that, "Mr King of Kernels" reacts like that...

    Hey Jango,
Nobody "needs" this kernel; I had Hardy and Intrepid running on my AA1 long before it came along, and have run Jaunty with stock Ubuntu kernels. But a lightweight kernel customized to work out of the box with the AA1 is something many AA1 owners, myself included, truly appreciate.

Re: SlCKB0Y Kernel 2.6.28 Downloads - Update with Website!

Hey, I just installed Jaunty (not UNR).

Installed the Sickboy kernel, headers and madwifi.

Everything seems to be working fine except acerhdf doesn't seem to be working, the fans are running 24/7.

When i modprobe acerhdf it says module not found or something like that. Tried adding acerhdf to /etc/modules but no luck.

I installed the kernel from aspireonekernel.com

    Any help?

    Thanks in advance.

Re: SlCKB0Y Kernel 2.6.28 Downloads - Update with Website!

Yeah, none of us need this kernel since ubuntu comes with a nice fancy bloated all-in-one kernel when you install it.

But many people like I myself choose to use this kernel because it's, well, better for what I need it for. It's lighweight, fast and stripped of all the unnesessary stuff we don't need with our Ones.

Whether you like it or not and use it or not is up to you yourself. But if you don't have anything good to say about it and only want to whine about something that is known to be missing is really pointless and you can simply remain silent.

There are tons of people who are grateful to sickboy for providing these well working tested special kernels. For f*s sake the guy even makes spin-off special kernels for people who need stuff that isn't found on the normal releases of his kernels!

So my suggestion is that we all chill out and let sickboy do his work in peace and and let jango be all frustrated and mad by himself.

People are free to use or not what they want, and we are free to have their opinion, but...
WE ARE NOT FREE TO INSULT OTHER PEOPLE ONLY BECAUSE THEIR OPINION IS DIFFERENT.
I just expressed my opinion and not insulted anyone as he did.
