That is true, and he could have been a bit more polite towards you.

Your report has been noted and the original post edited.

Thanks Sickboy! everthing is working except for tuxonice for me in the 0404 kernel. Do I need to load a module for tuxonice in this version? Right now it seems to be doing the regular ubuntu suspend, even though I have it set to use tuxonice.

When using SICKBOY's kernel, will a SD card corrupt when the machine is suspended?
I've ploughed through the pages of this thread and couldn't find the answer, so please forgive me if the answer to this question is obvious..

It suspends, hibernates. and resumes just fine.

Re: SlCKB0Y Kernel 2.6.28 Downloads - Update with Website!

I would say that Sickboy's kernel has reached the pinnacle, where everything works.

The only glitch I found is that the right hand card reader does not work unless a card
is in there at boot time. After that, you can insert/remove no problem.

    The left reader is ok.

This may be bios related; ie, the bios memory location(s) may need to be poked with
a value to wake up the right hand card reader. Limpus has both readers working, so
it is possible. Maybe their source code has a clue.

Re: SlCKB0Y Kernel 2.6.28 Downloads - Update with Website!

There is a kernel 2.6.29.1-one for the AA1 at the http://thibm.free.fr site. It is
distribution agnostic; ie, should work on Ubuntu, Fedora, Debian etc.

It is in .tar.gz format, so I have not installed it, as I would prefer the .deb way.
Perhaps someone here can package in a deb? And report on how it works?

Re: SlCKB0Y Kernel 2.6.28 Downloads - Update with Website!

To answer my own question regarding the right hand card slot.

I did a bit of research and found that there are two versions of the A110L; one has
identical JMicron card slots, one at bus 01, and the other at bus #04. The other
version has one JMicron and the other a different brand.

Apparently, the different-branded units have both slots work out of the box, but the
identical-slotted ones exhibit the symptom; ie, r/h slot is not recognized after boot
unless a card was present at boot time.

I fixed this by loading the pciehp module with a parameter:

    rfg@AOA1$ sudo modprobe pciehp pciehp_force=1

once I did that, the r/h slot came alive. So now all I am going to do is add that line
    to /etc/modules

Over the next few days I will test it to see if anything corrupts or runs smooth and I
    will report back here again.

Re: SlCKB0Y Kernel 2.6.28 Downloads - Update with Website!

pciehp_force is what causes the data loss problems and I wouldn't recommend using it, and it's been fixed for months now using acpihp instead of native pciehp which leaves the device on even though you told it to go off when you use the _force method.

some more info on it -
    http://mjg59.livejournal.com/100587.html?thread=1148139

edit: sorry, I just saw acpihp isn't built into these kernels so it'll be a bit of work fixing it

    Sorry, My mistake.

the 0404 release had it removed. I found it was causing usplash to stop functioning. The next release ill make one with tuxonice and one with normal hibrnation.

Re: SlCKB0Y Kernel 2.6.28 Downloads - Update with Website!

it was merged forever ago, I imagine it's in the 2.6.28.9 you're using? if not, why dont ya just use the ubuntu jaunty kernel as your base as they cherry picked alot of post 2.6.28 fixes on top of being based on 2.6.28.9 already.. here's the git commit for that patch

    http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kern...it;h=56ee325e25a0f76fc3267872867b3d70af179aad

but there have been some other changes since then -

    http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kern...794d9e0dce60d3ae57948122e1e53efa57aa5;hb=HEAD

just looked and it doesn't look like it hit the jaunty kernel either, this one looked interesting and isn't in mainline though -

    http://kernel.ubuntu.com/git?p=ubun...it;h=db9aaf0bf19886114935152996edd9c6683b741c

there's even a jaunty tuxonice you can use as a base to make things easier

Re: SlCKB0Y Kernel 2.6.28 Downloads - Update with Website!

2.6.29 has all the acpihp stuff included already so no worries about patching that part. You may want to look into http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=12949 though as it helped lower interrupts alot when I used it on 2.6.29 so the touchpad doesn't go crazy at 500 wakeups from idle/second in powertop when you use it. Doesn't work for 2.6.30 unfortunately :(

Re: SlCKB0Y Kernel 2.6.28 Downloads - Update with Website!

It doesn't unfortunately. Almost everything seems to work but suspend/resume with mounted SDHC cards can wipe the partition table of the card and damage other data as well.

I believe in you, but I have suspend/resume working fine with SDHC mounted as HOME with Jaunty stock Kernel since alpha 6 without any problems so far.

I have trashed my SD partition twice using Jaunty. I wouldn't recommend using home on SD with the stock ubuntu kernel.

Thanks sickboy, I look forward to your next release.
