create a file called /etc/modprobe.d/aa1 with the following

    Code:

            # To enable card slots when empty at boot
            options pciehp pciehp_force=1
            # From post on lkml
            options sdhci debug_quirks=1

Glad to see that the kernel is still in active development. Any news on the flash/video issues people have been having?

I wanna say that's an 8.10 issue and that it wont be backported from Jaunty?

    Re: SlCKB0Y/Kuki kernel 2.6.28 Release

The intel GMA950 3d issues were recognized by the Ubuntu team as an issue in 8.10, the fix will be in 9.04 Jaunty Jackalope, but I also thought I had read that there will not be a backport (porting the jaunty fix back to intrepid) to solve the issue in the meantime for the 8.10 users.

    Re: SlCKB0Y/Kuki kernel 2.6.28 Release

i made the following changes, it still does not read my SDHC card

as recap, i had 2 SDHCs: a 16gb class6 card and a 8gb class6 gb card, currently this kernel does not read my 8gb card in the SDcard readers

Anyways, to others who had a similar problem as mine, can you report it here if you are able to make your SDHC cards readable. and what steps did you take to make it as such,

    thanks!

    PS
    great kernel!!!

    Re: SlCKB0Y/Kuki kernel 2.6.28 Release

Using it with Easy Peasy 1.0, Boot is faster, I think there are a few quirks (Networking is sluggish, but I think thats our crappy 802.11b house network) but over all, I love your kernels dude! I'm gonna be keeping an eye on your stuff, and keep up the good work!!

EDIT: one thing that i've noticed, that I don't know if its just me, but when i hit the "quit" button to shutdown, it kinda stalls for a while... like 10 seconds (which is like 3 times as long as it was with the older kernel) before showing the shutdown choices. anyone else having this problem? in fact, anything that has to do with ending the session (switching users, restarting, etc) is really slow. And when i do shutdown, the gnome power manager stalls... which extends shutdown by like... oh, a second. if anyone can give a hand with these problems that'd be awesome

    Re: SlCKB0Y/Kuki kernel 2.6.28 Release

That kinda sucks. When will 9.04 be up and running on the Aspire one? If I got the alpha version working, could I update to stable when it is released?

    Re: SlCKB0Y/Kuki kernel 2.6.28 Release

    Just as a question:

I have compiled yet another version of my kernel - a lighter version with less drivers. It should boot faster and be smaller, but does not have support for bluetooth, intel or broadcom wifi drivers, extra filesystem support (only ext2/3) or usb-serial for 3g USB modems.

I think it would boot maybe 2-4 seconds faster.

Would anyone like cut down kernel this made available?

    Sickboy,

Thank you very much for all the effort you had invested in getting the new kernel working for AA0.

So far I have not encountered any problem at all. I do not have a wifi at home so i have no way of testing the wifi led.

    Get well soon. Thanks.

    Re: SlCKB0Y/Kuki kernel 2.6.28 Release

I would be interested in this version because I have no need for the afore mentioned drivers, also a question when will there be madwifi support in your kernel because my wifi is flakey when uploading files to my windows PC (ok on download).

    Re: SlCKB0Y/Kuki kernel 2.6.28 Release

Personally I think it makes sense to include support for non-standard devices only as modules (when possible). In general I feel the non-standard device support should be kept to a minimum.

    Re: SlCKB0Y/Kuki kernel 2.6.28 Release

    Good work, once again.

Do you mind releasing the .config file so I can compile my own kernel on SuSE.
Did it before using your last kernel and it worked spotless.

    Ta muchly.

    Re: SlCKB0Y/Kuki kernel 2.6.28 Release

    Here.

You might want to remove the extra intel/broadcom/bluetooth/filesystem drivers if you dont use them

    Re: SlCKB0Y/Kuki kernel 2.6.28 Release

    SICKBOY:

Great job! i have one slick AA1 with all known issues resolved!
Sound & video OK, memory cards alive, WLAN working.
LED is blinking and it actually seems to show data transfer and not like previously just blinking in constantly.

I suggest you change your nickname to SLICKBOY!

However (there is always a however, right?) I have an issue with the HUAWEI GPRS dongle.
In the previous kernel Network Manager would 'see' the dongle as soon as it was plugged in and a connection could be set up.
However with this kernel the Network Manager does not 'see' anything!
I believe the kernel should have been setup for USB support for this, correct?

Anyone seen this and possibly have a solution for this issue?

    On the following:

I had no problems at all.
Could it be that you did not issue the command in the directory where the deb-file was downloaded?
Alternatively could it be that your file is corrupted? I had the impression that the server was heavily overloaded yesterday and this could have caused data loss. I your file size as listed?

All in all I am a happy guy.
    Keep up the good work!

    Peter.

    Re: SlCKB0Y/Kuki kernel 2.6.28 Release

I would defiantly be interested in the more cut down kernel. Im using totally standard hardware on my one so can get away with a really cut down kernel.

Thanks for your work so far, the kernels have defiantly improved my ubuntu experience on the one!

    Great job!
And I totally agree with geekyhawkes.
I am also running a standard AAO and would love a cut down, lightweight kernel.
