    Re: SlCKB0Y/Kuki kernel 2.6.28 Release

    Hey!

I had a problem with this new kernel when I tried it.

I'm running UNR and tried to install this to my One. I got the headers and kernel installed with --force-architecture, and all seemed to work well except for my wireless which died completely.

I tried to do some fixes but couldn't get it to work.
I currently have madwifi installed with the instructions from the ubuntu community site, and I'm betting on this being the problem.
Anyone else have the same problem and can maybe give me some tips what to do to get it working?

I believe the madwifi instructions have you put ath5k in /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist, which would prevent it from loading using this kernel. Remove that line and reboot. (also, there are some modifications in /etc/rc.local that are no longer needed)

OR I think you could recompile the madwifi packages for this kernel if you prefer the madwifi drivers.

    Re: SlCKB0Y/Kuki kernel 2.6.28 Release

I have now added a line to the /etc/modules file which will issue the correct command at startup and because of this the HUAWEI E220 dongle is now recognized when it is plugged in.
What I did is the following:
    In terminal enter:
    Code:
    sudo gedit /etc/modules
This brings up the correct file that you want to edit.
    At the bottom insert:
    Code:
    # for HUAWEI E220 dongle
    usbserial vendor=0x12d1 product=0x1003
Now you can save the file and close it.

After reboot you should be able to work with the HUAWEI dongle the usual way (like setup a connection from Network Manager).

    Hope this helps someone.....

Question remains why this is necessary in the SICKBOY kernel (which I love, by the way).
I would guess that one of the omitted kernel options was taking care of this in the standard kernel?

    Peter.

    Re: SlCKB0Y/Kuki kernel 2.6.28 Release

I have huge problem too. I can install the /home partition on my extra sdhc and choose to use 1gb to swap and use for some time after the installation but then after a boot it can't find my card and if i'm lucky it solves with a reboot and if i'm unlucky i can't get to login at all. Have someone any solution to this?!

    Re: SlCKB0Y/Kuki kernel 2.6.28 Release

Users can't login without $HOME, it's normal because your home is on card. After some experiments (under 2.6.27 & 2.6.28)I have an idea that hardware controller works by mysterious laws. I have 2 miscroSD cards for my Nokia (100% works) and I saw that my SD's worked time to time under different kernels.(about dozen generic & custom from 2.6.23 to 2.6.28-git9) So, I think this problem is unresolvable until stable driver release.

i'd check to see if the problem exists with concurrency set off. I was reading on one of the other netbook os sites (eeebuntu.org, I think, but it could have been another) that if they set concurrency on they had to rearrange or renumber some of the startup scripts to make sure the hardware was detected and initialized in the right order.

    Re: SlCKB0Y/Kuki kernel 2.6.28 Release

Hey SickBoy i luv your kernel man its made my One so much more responsive

i jus found one simple problem

i attempted to use Ettercap on 8.10 with your kernel and i am unable to load ip_tables for ettercap and it works perfectly on the default kernel..

have you stripped this feature outta the kernel?? is there a way to get it running?? its not a major issue and can boot into my other kernel when using ettercap..

if it could be fixed then all is perfecto...

    Hi sickboy and all,

i am really grateful with this kernel. It boot faster and more responsive.

    My question is,

Is it applicable to all version of Ubuntu? (I am currently using fresh Ubuntu 8.04.1 and install this kernel).
Wifi is not detected, and the LED also, what is the possible problem?

    thanks and regards,

    My wireless died!

After upgrading from previous RC8 version to 2.6.28 everything works - except my wifi. I am running UNR.

How do I go back to the old kernel? Thank you.

sorry to bump this but has anyone else had issues whilst using ettercap with this kernel???

    Code:
    ettercap NG-0.7.3 copyright 2001-2004 ALoR & NaGA

iptables v1.4.0: can't initialize iptables table `nat': Table does not exist (do you need to insmod?)
Perhaps iptables or your kernel needs to be upgraded.

    Re: SlCKB0Y/Kuki kernel 2.6.28 Release

Thanks, but that did not work. It still says kernel is 2.6.28. I need my wireless :(

EDIT: I did 'sudo apt-get install startupmanager' and then choose the old kernel. New kernel version was not so good after all.
