Sorry about that - I'm so used to editing my grub.conf (aka menu.lst) file to point to the proper kernel that I forget sometimes that it doesn't work the same way for other people. Glad you got it working again.

    Re: SlCKB0Y/Kuki kernel 2.6.28 Release

The CPU frequency scaling does not seem to work on my acer aspire 1 (from system monitor) with this kernal and easypeasy . As I'm a newbie how do I check this/fix it?

    Easy peasy is great (apart from the name) - its a developed form of ubuntu neybook remix;

    Re: SlCKB0Y/Kuki kernel 2.6.28 Release

The point of me doing this kernel in the first place was to eliminate things that I don't use in order to speed up the boot process. From this point onwards adding in features to satisfy one person at the cost of making a slower kernel for everyone else doesnt seem to make much sense to me.

Having said this though, that is not a no.

Keep in mind you have the kernel config now, possibly the best solution is to compile the kernel for yourself, customising it to your needs.

    Re: SlCKB0Y/Kuki kernel 2.6.28 Release

    Hey Sickboy and others,

Nice work on the kernel (I finally worked up the stones to try it). I installed it and made a UNR/Sickboy Howto, and things are basically good. Great work, and it's good of you to donate your time like this. I hope the problems with your own AAO are getting resolved, Sickboy.

But I thought I'd bring up something. I can't get use my Bluetooth headphones with the Sickboy kernel. I can get the Bluetooth icon up, but the headphones (configured laboriously as per this Wiki page and a lot of trial and error) won't work except under the lpia kernel. I've got two different versions of Sickboy kernel and neither work.

Is this a known problem? Should I dig up some data to help diagnosis? Does someone have a2dp working under the Sickboy kernel?

    -Sam

    Hey Sickboy,
First and foremost, thanks very much for all your work on customizing the kernel for everyone. You mentioned the kernel configs being the easiest way to create our own custom, which is absolutely correct. But I can't seem to find them anywhere. I remember seeing them over a month ago, but can't find them on your site or anywhere here. Can you put the config you used on 2.6.28 up so we can add things for our needs. Thanks!!!

Of course. I'll put them up ASAP

Also keep in mind if you have installed my kernel you will have the config in /boot

    Re: SlCKB0Y/Kuki kernel 2.6.28 Release

Hey, SICKBOY, I recommend you to set default I/O scheduler to NOOP in your .config. No need to set elevator=noop in menu.lst in that case. And there's no need to set governor to "ondemand" in rc.local because it's a default option for this kernel. Pay attention to i2c in kernel - needed by hwmon. Try to build kernel as modular as possible - in that case you can recompile only modules (patched, hacked etc.) you need, not entire kernel. (coretemp, or acpi_cpufreq or ath5k drivers)

    Re: SlCKB0Y/Kuki kernel 2.6.28 Release

I might be wrong, but isn't that something for the SSD disks only?
Personally I would prefer to keep SD/SSD specific options to default in the kernel (although I guess SSD disk will be standard in the near future for laptops).

    Re: SlCKB0Y/Kuki kernel 2.6.28 Release

You're right, but I think that number of people who has A110 with SSD is bigger than A150 with HDD. Maybe my thoughts was not so clearly in that post. Tuning for A110 is more specific. And I think that HDD version don't need tunning exactly. BUT I strongly recommend to do not use ugly heavyweighted GNOME or KDE. LXDE, XFCE, Openbox and other *boxes, standalone or in their combinations - that's the alternative.

PS XP works perfectly on my brother's A150 w/out any fine tuning. That's the question.

    Re: SlCKB0Y/Kuki kernel 2.6.28 Release

Well i dont have an SSD, so I will keep it as is. You SSD people can add the line to grub

Yes, but more modules slow down the boot process considerably.

    Re: SlCKB0Y/Kuki kernel 2.6.28 Release

Awesome job sickboy. PHC is working, I will do some testing later as to power savings. Don't forget you need to set new values, I put the following in my rc.local.

    Code:
    echo "12:17 10:17 8:10 6:3" > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/phc_controls
    echo "12:17 10:17 8:10 6:3" > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu1/cpufreq/phc_controls
These work great for me, YMMV.

    Thanks.

    Re: SlCKB0Y/Kuki kernel 2.6.28 Release

Not sure if this is the right place for this question, just move me otherwise, apologies in advance...

couldnt we configure grub and point it at an SD card installed with whatever, that would prevent the kids from breaking my usb stick off whilst frisbeeing the acer one from the kitchen to the couch ...?

Joined the forum just to be able to say thank you! Very pleased with my quicker-booting generally snappier AA1 - keep up the good work! :)
