    Re: SlCKB0Y/Kuki kernel 2.6.28 Release

We need to boot off the internal drive (or a USB stick) using a custom initd.img file with the SD card drivers loaded. The AA1 can't do a straight boot off an SD card

    Re: SlCKB0Y/Kuki kernel 2.6.28 Release

    It says to put

    Code:
    # Economize the SSD
    sysctl -w vm.swappiness=1 # Strongly discourage swapping
sysctl -w vm.vfs_cache_pressure=50 # Don't shrink the inode cache aggressively

    # As in the rc.last.ctrl of Linpus
    echo ondemand > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_governor
    echo ondemand > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu1/cpufreq/scaling_governor
    cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/ondemand/sampling_rate_max > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/ondemand/sampling_rate

    echo 1500 > /proc/sys/vm/dirty_writeback_centisecs
    echo 20 > /proc/sys/vm/dirty_ratio
    echo 10 > /proc/sys/vm/dirty_background_ratio

    echo 1 > /sys/devices/system/cpu/sched_smt_power_savings
    echo 10 > /sys/module/snd_hda_intel/parameters/power_save
    echo 5 > /proc/sys/vm/laptop_mode

#Decrease power usage of USB while idle
    [ -w /sys/bus/usb/devices/1-5/power/level ] && echo auto > /sys/bus/usb/devices/1-5/power/level
    [ -w /sys/bus/usb/devices/5-5/power/level ] && echo auto > /sys/bus/usb/devices/5-5/power/level

    # Disable Wake-On-LAN feature of Ethernet port
    ethtool -s eth0 wol d

    in /etc/rc.local
you'l have to install ethtool for this to work. then chmod +x /etc/rc.local. then run it to make sure you dont get errors

first, i must thanks to SlCKB0Y for this kernel...

I need Virtualbox on my AA1. So, how to add vmdrv modules to this kernel?

    Re: SlCKB0Y/Kuki kernel 2.6.28 Release

    Thank you!!!

This kernel (0.2) works great and with undervolting idling takes only 7.5W using "12:19 10:1 8:1 6:1" values with pch_controls

Here is a guide to determine how low can you go...

    Thanks!

edit: btw Previous kernel's tuxonice worked ok with my aa1 (ZG5 running Easy Peasy 1.0). No problems with that and hibernation was fast!

    Re: SlCKB0Y/Kuki kernel 2.6.28 Release

Does this kernel support the card slots ?
I have a 2GB Traveller SD Card that works fine in Linpus but is not recognised by Ubuntu.

    Using 2.6.28-rc8-custom-aa1 or 2.6.28 (Sickboy's) it's not recognised..

    Any Ideas ??
    Thanks

    Re: SlCKB0Y/Kuki kernel 2.6.28 Release

SICKBOY in the headers package you need to link /usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.28-sickboy-kuki to /lib/modules/2.6.28-sickboy-kuki/build

    Re: SlCKB0Y/Kuki kernel 2.6.28 Release

I have 4G card on left side mounted as /home and right slot hot swapping works great.
    Try
    Code:
    sudo modprobe pciehp

    Re: SlCKB0Y/Kuki kernel 2.6.28 Release

So /boot must be on the internal flash, but /root? I would think you could put it anywhere [I have no desire to do this, so have not tried]

Does anybody think an external card will be faster than the internal?

These values also save me about .4 watts. Awesome. I used that script to get my previous values, but these work better.

    Re: SlCKB0Y/Kuki kernel 2.6.28 Release

I don't mean to sound rude, but how does this affect you?
It's just that I originally compiled this kernel for myself and decided to release it because people might find it useful, but to be honest, it is becoming more hassle than it is worth. I am beginning to seriously consider closing this project.

    Re: SlCKB0Y/Kuki kernel 2.6.28 Release

Would it be possible to compile the kernel with USB Modem (CDC ACM) support? That would enable the cdc_acm module which is needed to get 3g working at least on Nokia phones.

Can I somehow add that module to precompiled kernel?

    Re: SlCKB0Y/Kuki kernel 2.6.28 Release

I'll bet you didn't realize what you were getting yourself into when you started down this road

    <rant>
Honestly people, compiling your own kernel really isn't a big deal. It's one of the first things I did when I first started using Linux back at the dawn of the 21st century. It's one thing to compile an efficient kernel for a standard AA1, which is where this whole effort started. It's quite another the come up with a single kernel that will satisfy all Ubuntu/AA1 users with all of the hardware mods/additions we see in these forums. You want a custom kernel based on sickboy's kernel? Grab sickboy's config file, make your mods, and compile your own kernel. </rant>

Having said that, perhaps what's really needed here is a well-written HOWTO that starts with a basic Ubuntu installation and ends with
    .

    Re: SlCKB0Y/Kuki kernel 2.6.28 Release

for the new headers to work you need to
    in terminal:
    Code:
    sudo mkdir /lib/modules/2.6.28-sickboy-kuki/build
    sudo ln -s -f /usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.28-sickboy-kuki/* /lib/modules/2.6.28-sickboy-kuki/build/

    update:
i made hso 1.6 3G driver module i tested it on my aao and it works if someone can confirm it will be great...

    Re: SlCKB0Y/Kuki kernel 2.6.28 Release

    @sickboy Sounds like a winner!

Just one question. I installed latest kernel on #! Crunchbang, but I'm using a 4g sdhc card on left slot as /home.
When I boot sickboy kernel it gives me a failure. Just tried sdhci debug_quirks=1 and created (like suggested) a /etc/modprobe.d/aa1 file with that options.

Was I doing something wrong? Was I missing something?
I tried this kernel because in Ubuntu's 2.6.27.11 kernel there's a bug with ethernet on r8169.

Keep up the good job! And thaks in advance. ;)

    Re: SlCKB0Y/Kuki kernel 2.6.28 Release

I'm amazed at the number of people asking sickboy to add this, that or the other and don't seem to want to learn how to do it themselves. It's not hard and there are plenty of step by step how-tos. Building kernels under Debian is well documented.

Have a look at this thread: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=311158

At step 8 use Sickboy's .config file instead of copying your current one.

This is a great opportunity to learn some new and useful skills!

    Re: SlCKB0Y/Kuki kernel 2.6.28 Release

Ditto - I run ubuntu 8.04 as it improves my video performance tremendously (there is a bug in 8.10 causing poor graphics). I would like to install headers so I can compile apps which do not provide binaries.

    Thanks,
