    Re: SlCKB0Y/Kuki kernel 2.6.28 Release

Perhaps not all the PCI-express wifi cards in the AAO are equal? You might want to look at the networking and wifi section of this forum to see details of widespread problems. Fortunately it appears possible to swap the wifi card with a different one.

You might want to try cloning your friend's machine onto yours using partimage. That might indicate if it is a hardware problem or not.

    Re: SlCKB0Y/Kuki kernel 2.6.28 Release

So here is another man who thanks u very much Sickboy, the experience has changed totally with Xubuntu and your kernel!
I passed panic moments when it seemed that nothing had changed... It took half an hour to realize grub wasn't loading the new kernel!! :D
How do I default to it?
Another question, what would be the easiest way of adding usb audio? Do I need to recompile alsa and kernel or just one of them? And how do I do that? Sorry, I'm a newbie with ubuntu, a few links or tips will suffice...
    Thanks!

EDIT: One last thing, I can't scroll horizontally anymore via touchpad, is that normal? How do I solve it?

Edit /boot/grub/menu.lst and change the line that begins with "default".

    Re: SlCKB0Y/Kuki kernel 2.6.28 Release

Has anyone had success using this kernel with an intel 3945 wireless card? Intel wireless compatibility is listed however I see no way to load the firmware on boot.

Hey Sickboy, I know you're probably getting bummed about how much work your kernel has become but would it be at all possible for you to list what modules, etc you compiled into your kernel? I loved using your kernel but had to switch back to the stock kernel because I installed a 4965AGN in place of the Atheros wifi and would like to compile a kernel with all of your mods to it except the atheros driver.

    Re: SlCKB0Y/Kuki kernel 2.6.28 Release

I am yet another who wishes to express their thanks. I am using the cut-down version of the kernel on a Ubuntu UMPC (8.10) image with Netbook Remix. It has been running for about a week now and I am more than happy with the reduced boot time (~40secs) and improved wireless stability. Beforehand the wireless would occasionally fail to connect on boot but now the connection is reliable.

    Thank you Sickboy :p

I had switched back to the stock kernel because this one doesn't seem to work with the Intel 4965?

    Re: SlCKB0Y/Kuki kernel 2.6.28 Release

The other link still works (the one at the university).
I did find the smaller kernel obviously doesn't have the iwlagn installed on it but the larger 4.7 meg file does.. so if you have anything other than stock internals in your one, get the larger of his two kernels.

    Re: SlCKB0Y/Kuki kernel 2.6.28 Release

So as to save sickboy the effort, the config file for any given kernel is located in /boot and has the same name as the kernel itself

I thought wrek was after a list of patches... can you tell that from the .config or by some other means?

    Re: SlCKB0Y/Kuki kernel 2.6.28 Release

I'm sorry if this will be a little off-topic, but it could actually be on topic too, the problem is right this, taht i don't know...

I need the snd-usb-audio module desperately and I'm trying to figure out what do I have to do to have it with this wonderful custom kernel.
Do I need to recompile the whole kernel?
What kernel sources/headers will I need?
Is there an easier/different way to add the module?
I won't ask you how to actually recompile everything, I just want to know where to start from, then I'll figure my way out. Heck, I built gentoos from scratch 4 years ago, I can't be rusted like this...
    Thank you again.

    Re: SlCKB0Y/Kuki kernel 2.6.28 Release

    Hi everyone,

First sorry for my language, but I'm french... Hum, sorry again...

I asked myself during few days how to use my acer as a synth and sampler machine.
I play music on linux, and I wanted to do the same thing with my little one crappy AAO, but the linpus kernel is awfull for that and the rt-kernel in mandriva or fedora doesn't work good with the acer.

So, I need to compil my own but I'm a newbie for that, so they're two ideas :

-First, I try alone...... In my house, wtih the winter wind, the wolves and the bears, and no one to help me... ( sob, sob... )
-Or a really smart guy, who have the experience to compil a kernel help me, or the best, have the time to do that.

See you, and congratulation for this kernel.

    Re: SlCKB0Y/Kuki kernel 2.6.28 Release

Yes I know this site http://www.ug.it.usyd.edu.au/~scole/
But this kernel seem to be of an older version:
    linux-image-2.6.28_Sickboy.Kuki.0.1_i386.deb
    compared to
    linux-image-2.6.28-sickboy-kuki_0.2_i386.deb

Or is it just different names for identical files?

    Re: SlCKB0Y/Kuki kernel 2.6.28 Release

It's different names and different versions too. I compared 0.1 vs 0.2 headers files and obviously they're not the same file. I'm just looking for the kernel since I didn't have enough time to download it when it was available...

Where can Sickboy's newest kernel be found? Is there a working link?
