    Hi Everyone,

All of a sudden, my Aspire One has started to acting really slow, and now it can't play music on itunes or playing videos on windows media player without being choppy, its starting to really bug me, not to mention it takes forever to start up. Has this happened to anyone else? Are there any fixes?

Sounds like malware...? Have you tried RESTORE to a date BEFORE this all happened?
START/HELP AND SUPPORT/Undo Changes To Your Computer

    Might get it working.

Install SuperAntiSpyware (free version) and scan. If it finds anything it will make short shrift of getting rid of it. Also install CCleaner and run it on both the file system and the registry. It doesn't sound like too big a deal, post your results. What did you do before this started happening?

I really haven't had any habits, except not using the computer for a week, that's about it. I ran CCleaner, went fine. I also ran SuperAntiSpyware, and it found nothing

Think back, what did you install before this started happening. You could remove those programs with Revo Uninstaller (free). Do a ctrl+alt+delete (hold them all down at the same time for a second) maneuver to get to Task Manager where you can click on Processes and then Memory Usage to sort those processes. You may be able to get a hint as to what program is hogging your resources. You can also Run msconfig in diagnostic mode (type msconfig into Start/Run), I'm pretty sure things will improve there, but you have to find the culprit.

Take your time and take notes so that you can restore the original settings in msconfig if you go there. It's time consuming but you will eventually get it.

If you cannot find the solution by doing the above, here is a respected deeper registry cleaner that might help:
    EasyCleaner
Set a System Restore Point before using this and familiarize yourself with the process as it is not without risks. All I can say here is that you will probably be alright after using it. Maybe we should wait a while until others jump in with different opinions.

Also, treker's suggestion might definitely work, although you may lose some settings.

Did you uninstall iTunes first to see if it was somehow causing a problem. That is a big program and I would suspect it right away. You might try Revo Uninstaller with that one, it will automatically create a reset point for you and get rid of almost every change iTunes made to the registry. Try to think what else you put in before iTunes as well. You can also use MSCONFIG to disable every process one by one (a few at a time might be better though).

Has anyone else experienced a slow down on the AAO I wonder?

More specifically, you can use MSCONFIG to systematically shut down processes which are located in the Startup Tab. Take a few at a time and uncheck the boxes, leave the other ones active and close down MSCONFIG (watching the popups). Rebooting eliminates those process from the set of potential problem programs if the problem persists. You can progressively elimate them all until the culprit shows himself. I don't remember the exact details to the process but pay special attention to the messages that MSCONFIG shows you. You can always Cancel out at any time when you are in doubt of what you did. A few written notes might help your memory as you will want to know exactly how to retrace your steps to restore things as they were. It sounds harder than it is in case you have not been through this process or forgotten it. I believe that going through this has a high probability of revealing the program that is causing the slowdown.

well I ran TrendMicro, and it stopped SVC host, but that's it, no viruses or anything.... I keep going with the MSconfig, but i can't really seem to put my finger on it. I don't have the computer info in front of me, but I might just restore my computer back to a clean slate, all of the required tools come with the computer box right? Or should i just upgrade to Vista or 7

I think you should keep XP, it's well balanced to the hardware and you don't need more headaches. I'm not sure about how the system restore works on this device, I imagine that there are threads describing the procedure in detail.

Oh no! :( You might try a post about this to The Tech Support Guy while at the same time continuing your efforts here. They are pretty good. Aspireoneuser.com is a bit too small. An attempt to restore the system to it's original state might be the final move after backing up most of your configuration. Maybe a call to Acer?
