Slow Internet, TCP/MTU Settings ?

    HI, bought my daughter an Acer Aspire One, Linpus 8gb version for Xmas. She's got Laptop for Homework etc, but wanted this for social networking sites and messenger etc. Main problem is very slow internet access. Can't get Acer updates, keeps timing out before downloads are complete. Messenger not working to MSN, which I understand will be cured by updates.
    Web site access is very slow as well. I think it may be my router, had similar problems with Laptops running XP, but used a util call DRTCP. Adjusted TCP settings RWIN and then MTU to about 1400, and all speeded up. Only fast sites on Acer at moment are Google ones, which was the same symptom on XP Laptop until 'tweaked' TCP settings.
    Can I adjust the TCP settings on this Acer under Linpus, or am I barking up the wrong tree ?
