Re: Snow Leopard - working here + guide

    1. I don't think so. 'update by pkg' not possible coz apple did not release any update for any dev seeds to 10a432 (check ur software update). Updgrade from sl seeds using dvd is not available for me. Yesterday when I load up my install disc, the org sl partition has an ! Mark with the reason 'cannot boot from this partition'. I don't know how to override this check so i formatted my partition.

    2. I myself think fakesmc is much stabler (less dock hangs and relaunch) so I vote for fakesmc.

Forget about those gma pkgs that might NEVER get gfx back on track/.
ALWAYS use 27aepatch.command to get a proper gfx :)
Those old kexts just suck since day one.

edit: the patch works on leopard and sl, and better to re-patch after every update. just run with sudo, let the mkext to rebuild, and reboot

Re: Snow Leopard GM - retail guide

in these instructions, you dont mention a need for the mkext we made in step 3 to be in the snow leo installation drive (your Macintosh HD)
or if we have to use kext cache when we put in a new mkext...

well, if the mkext goes into the extra directory of the usb boot drive, then the bootloader should be able to boot sl with the mkext (at least i boot mine with only mkext in extra in efi partition)

and if the install goes ok (i.e. just ends with the cannot set to boot error), there should already be a proper extensions.mkext, so u can just reboot

    Mike from Parallels here,

Good news, I just wanted to let everyone know that Parallels 4 is working for the new OS X Snow Leopard.

If you want to know more head over to our blog post on the subject.

    Hi Mike,

You´re running the Parallels 4 on the Snow Leopard running on an AAO?!

If yes, please tell me what you do to run Parallels 4 on the Acer, because everytime when I tried this, an error message pops up on my screen saying I have not a virtualization capable processor.

yeah, the atoms dont have the virtualization instruction set like the core duo's and amd's. so its a no go with parallels or vmware. but theres always wine - lol a lil off subject.

A few things, i'm feeling so lazy right now, been revising fluid mechanics all day!
Anyway, what EFI string have you used? Maybe upload your com.apple.boot.plist Also could someone upload all the kexts they used, or even better the mkext they made. Makes it easier for all the noobs.

THe gma string is from osx86tools

btw the guides over insanelymac are really helpful for beginners:

Re: Snow Leopard GM - retail guide

    Hey SP1950,

I've been trying to install retail for the past couple of days now and i've been losing sleep over it..

anyways, i get the same kp as the one on your original post. here's the thing, i get that kernel panic even before i can start the installer.

what i mean is that, after i prep the drive (mounted dvd install) with chameleon and the extra's, and try to boot it, i get that kp. and i can't use the kextcache since i cant even get to the installer. im really confused. :(

Re: Snow Leopard GM - retail guide

Um... Did you touch the /s/l/e in anyway?
Did you install any new kexts into sle?
    Try not to touch it.
You need to manually use kextcache to make a new mkext (and i don't exactly know how)
I'm on my fone, but I'll try to find the command for u (i rmb it was from netkas'blog)

Re: Snow Leopard GM - retail guide

im stuck at step 5. i'm getting the kp's in that step. and i cant boot the terminal window at all. like that terminal command 'touch'? or did i add anything to it? i left the s/l/e alone. it's the original from the retail disk.

Re: Snow Leopard GM - retail guide

    this is odd, really odd...
i learned from my mistake that it kp'd coz i got no valid kext cache in the new cache location
so that's my only explanation (and possible solution) to it

    try this anyway:
are you sure you got the same exact kp?

Re: Snow Leopard GM - retail guide

whre's the cache suppose to be located? /Extra/Extensions.mkext?

i can't boot with -s. i get that kp. i think i've read that same Vanilla guide too lol.

the only diference i see with the kernel panic is "Kernel trap at 0x00508684," then after that its the same "type 14=page fault". I did at one point got the invalid CPU kp. then when i started to put the mkext that i made, i get that other kp lol

Re: Snow Leopard GM - retail guide

for real macs, only at /System/Library/Caches/com.apple.kext.caches/Startup/Extensions.mkext (=leopard's /s/l/extensions.mkext)
for hacks, u would have the one above, and optionally the /extra/.......mkext

so better leave the /System/Library/Caches/com.apple.kext.caches/Startup/Extensions.mkext untouched, and make your own /extra one

just in case you don't know, just boot with "-v" and nothing else!
