Re: Snow Leopard GM - retail guide

im running out of ideas here.

this is what i have for my kexts:
    openhalt.kext
    platformuuid.kext
    disabler.kext
    fakesmc.kext
    nullcpupowermanagement.kext

is there any more that i should include or take out? did you have to modify the platformuuid.kext? these are the kext ive seen in the vanilla guides.

i have 10.5.6 running on an external usb hd. i boot that with my aa0d150 and work on the internal hd. i got the internal hd partition as Snow and Installer. i restored the retail dvd image on the installer partition using the restore option in the disk utility (after restore it renames the installer partition to mac os x install dvd). i pop the dvd out. from there i did a couple of variations:

    1) found the osinstall.mpkg in the /volumes/mac os x install dvd/system/installation/packages/. i installed that in my leopard environment to my snow partition. ive installed cham2rc2640 afterwards. i placed my kexts in the /extra folder. rebooted and boot with '-v -s -x32'. i got the same kp trying to get to the terminal.

    2) if i try to install the cham2 on the /volumes/mac os x install dvd/, it hangs on 'installing core'/writing package receipt.

    3) when i tried to install the binaries, and placed the kexts, i get the same kp trying to boot the intallation dvd. it doesnt even reach the terminal part or the pick your language screen.

    4) ive also got a unsupported cpu kp if i just boot the snow partition after sl and cham2 installation , but not including the kext.

    5) oh yeah its kinda funny, but after i install it, when i look in /s/l/caches/../extensions/ i dont see the created mkext. its really wierd too
    help?

Re: Snow Leopard GM - retail guide

@yohko101: for kexts, im only using sp1950's mkext (updated to 10a432) - dsmos + fakesmc in the extensions.mkext and in the /s/l/e i just have voodoohda + vanilla - unneeded graphics kexts (ati, geforce)

i had a surprisingly few amount problems installing retail snow leopard.

    @everybody:
if you have sp1950's mkext, but you see alot of "blablabla.kext is already loaded, refusing new kext blablabla.kext" when you boot verbose, you need to update the files in his mkext.

    1. download MKextTool (google) and unpack the extensions.mkext to a folder on your desktop.

    2. go into your s/l/e and find files that common (for example, all the IO****.kexts in the mkext are also present in s/l/e)

    3. go into the search bar and type the name of the first kext, dont forget to select "extensions" instead of "this mac" (skip the 27ae***.kexts, ill get to those later)

    4. go by, 1 by 1, searching for kexts in s/l/e, using the unpacked mkext as a list, and copy those to your desktop

    5. drag all the kexts on your desktop into the folder where u unpacked the mkext, tell it to replace them.

    6. now the 27ae****.kexts, delete the ones in the mkext folder

    7. download and run the patcher patch27ae.command (google)

    8. in s/l/e you will now have new kexts titles 27ae****.kext, copy those to the folder on your desktop.

    9. open the folder ,go to the MKextTool and drag the kexts in the folder to the area and click "build"

    10. copy your new kext to /extra/

if there's something wrong with this, if its outdated, incorrect, unneeded, please dont be afraid to tell me =]
also, if you want to use this in a guide, your more then welcome

Re: Snow Leopard GM - retail guide

    1. You can remove nullcpu...., coz disabler does the same thang.

This sounds crzay, but try to remove any individual kext in /extra/extensions/ and put only your own mkext in extra instead.

You can try booting without '-s -x32'.

    2. Do a 'sudo -s' in term b4 u install the bl.

    3. This is how I did it, and i have no idea where could go wrong...

    4. Coz u got no disabler and the stock cpu pm is working (which gives a nice kp of unsupported cpu)

    5. Yep, it's weird. At least that's the location where a new mkext cache is formed for SL.

Thanks for the clarification! In fact, those error msgs from incorrect io... Kexts does not render sl unbootable. But it's nice to have up to date kexts and a clean log! You should always update the io kexts after any sys upd.

Re: Snow Leopard GM - retail guide

@jakerrul I've tried downloading that Mkext Tool. when i try to view the contents of the Extensions.mkext posted by SP, it comes out blank. it's also blank when i try to extract it. I'm still running 10.5.6 on a recovery partition as it's my stable working environment. i'm going to update to 10.5.8 and check its any different.

@SP1950 i've done that command, but i think since my system is on 10.5.6 its not as effective. once i finish wid the upgrade, ill post my findings :D.

on a good note, if i get snow to boot, ill have a dualboot osx/win7 system

Re: Snow Leopard GM - retail guide

Did you try running the OSInstall.mpkg?
That's the last resort if you can't get the disc booted.

Re: Snow Leopard GM - retail guide

yeah, thats what i've been doing instead. but i still come across the same kp. ive tried doing the kextcache with 10.5.8. my mkext is like 1.5megs. i think its small. as soon as all the kext load while in verbose mode, i get kp'ed lol. i'm looking at the other guides to see and gonna try to put together a mkext like jakerrul described.

by the way, the mkext jakerrul was talking about.. i saw the attachment. its like 150kb. is that what you placed on your /extra folder or /s/l/?

Yep me too. Blank mkext. Resorted to 10.5.8 retail now. was piece of piss to get it working, but graphics have caused me problems. working great now but no hardware ci. not too bad though. qe is supported.
Anyway given up on sl for now. When i get a macbook/new laptop i will be able to screw round with my aao. Well even from tomorrow onwards i can, because i have an exam at 1 and thats all i needed my aao for, so I had internet for the 2 days ive been at uni.
So ill try and mess around more tmorrow!

Re: Snow Leopard GM - retail guide

hey, im having this strange problem:
i am using an efi string for the graphics (100% sure its correct) with chem2 r4## (1 version before the most recent) and the graphics were working....
i upgraded to r640 and verified that the efi string is still there, but the graphics arent working...

i can try to reinstall cham2 r640 through single user mode and i will try to retype the string (by hand :( )

Try to copy the boot list with gma string to both /extra and the trad. Location in library/.......
It works here with 640 and list in extra

Re: Snow Leopard GM - retail guide

Thanks for the guide. I'm mostly up and running with the retail version.

    A few problems:

1 and 2) No audio or ethernet - I installed the VoodooHDA, RealtekL1000 and appleACPIBatteryManager kexts using kexthelper app. The battery icon now works fine, but no audio or ethernet devices present.

    3) not quite as important, but: Broken external monitor support. The external monitor is detected, but no video - it seems to be jumping between standby and active modes when I move the mouse over to that screen.

Re: Snow Leopard GM - retail guide

ahhh, ill try that. currently the plist is in /l/p/s

1.for me, the audio out works 100%, make sure u get the 0.2.2 version of voodoohda and that the prefpane is loaded correctly, you should be receiving no errors.
2.i have not been able to test the ethernet, as i only use wireless
    3. i havent tried this either

Re: Snow Leopard GM - retail guide

I was able to get audio working with the latest kext's from the voodoohda google code page.

Also, I was able get the ethernet working with the R1000 kext from Pystar.

    External monitor, still broken.

    -=================================================

    UPDATE: monitor issue FIXED:

I plugged in the external and checked "Mirror Displays" in the Displays pref. Both screens freaked out with colored block garbage - both unreadable. I fiddled with Tab and Space for a while and managed unchecked that "Mirror Displays" checkbox. When the screen came back to being readable, the external was now working! Perhaps it was default set to an unsupported resolution and fiddling with the Mirror thing changed that somehow. I don't really care how/why it happened - everything is working now! Awesome!

Re: Snow Leopard GM - retail guide

yay! i got my SL to boot! the d150 model has so much quirks when it came to hardware and kext, but i did manage to boot it! woot woot! and the nice part is... its SnowLeo/Win7 dualboot! now, i just got to fix the other stuff lol but thank you SP1950 and jakerrul!

just to let u know, i gave up trying to make my SL work using my Leopard OS. So i just took out the hard drive and connected it to a real mac running snow leo and did the kextcache updates there.

Re: Snow Leopard GM - retail guide

Glad you too had SL working!

@the_case: I think there is an app called "Mirror Monitor" which toggles the mirror setting (google it, should be from the msi wind forum). It does the same thing but you can just type mirror in spotlight and everything is back on track!

@yohko101: You are welcome! But your case is really odd I can say. I had no problem making both 10a380 and 10a432 install disc boot, at least not with the mkext cache.

ok, so i copied the plist to /extra but it still isnt working....i also have a modified smbios.plist (it *should* show Hackintosh instead of MacPro3.1)
im really lost at what the problem is...if worse comes to worse, ill retype the efi string...

can u post ur ..boot.plist here?
u can still remove the 27ae..kexts and rebuild caches in the terminal from the install disc if it doesnt work.
better than typing those hex values i guess
