Re: Snow Leopard - I got it installed + guide

Thanks SP1950! I still can't quite get it working. I follow your step by step instructions for the original 10a380 installation and it went just fine. But for 10a394 I am lost... Do I just install the 10a394 update from Software Update, copy the mkext you posted here to /Extra and reboot? Do you mind to help me with some step by step instructions like you did for 10a380? I have the AOA110 machine with 1.8 inch harddrive and airport extreme card from ebay installed...

And I just heard 10a402 came out today... Have you tried it?

    0. backup any important files in case anything goes wrong
    1. update thru the software update
    2. sit back, relax, and wait till it prompts to reboot for update
    3. let it update
    4. once it is power cycled, you are already in 10a394!
    5. just to be safe, reboot again by yourself
    6. install the removed kexts into /s/l/e/ and copy the mkext in extra
    7. reboot and done!

i tried 10a402, but somehow i killed my install
i COULD boot into 10a402 for the 1st reboot, but i can't anymore after the 1st attempt
i use fresh-installed 10a380 and update to 10a394, and will try the new seed later
i am sure i got something wrong wit my extensions

Re: Snow Leopard - I got it installed + guide

Running flawless on my AAO, i did all the steps on the first post, et voila! runs like a charm :)

The only thing i've done after setup and install PCEfi is add the VoodooHDA, and everything is running perfect!

I've done the two updates after A380, and everything is running fine, no prob at all.

Just waiting to see if the new VoodooSDHC will run on SL, coz it crashes my AAO atm when i install it.

    Great job dudes!!

Re: Snow Leopard - I got it installed + guide

Thanks for your guide, everything went smooth with the install. But when restarting for the first time I got the same kernel panic that you have. I tried kextcache -update-volume /Volumes/leopard but I get an error: no supported helper partitions to update.

Any thoughts on how con I fix this?

Re: Snow Leopard - I got it installed + guide

Sorry, I missed that part. But apart from that, I think I followed every step in the guide and I am getting a Kp about the CPU not being supported:

Pass cpu=1 to the kernel. Unless you are using the voodookernel, it doesnt know about the multithreading in an Atom processor, and mistakes it for a Core Duo processor.

Re: Snow Leopard - I got it installed + guide

ok, i jus got my boot-132 usb made and it gives me
    Code:
    Loading Darwin/x86
    Loading kernel mach_kernel
    Loading HFS+ file: [mach_kernel] from 4234f00
    Loading HFS+ file: [mach_kernel] from 4234f00

and it just stops with a flashing cursor
i believe its trying to load the Extension.mkext but its failing.
after the install,(before rebooting) i used the cp command to move the one that u uploaded to the /Volumes/SnowHD/Extra
and i did the kextcache command, and then i rebooted

Re: Snow Leopard - I got it installed + guide

    well, that's odd...
i can use my chameleon 2.0 rc1 (not the netkas one) as boot132 usb and boot right into sl after installation
please check if you are using chameleon 2 as the boot132 usb bootloader
if not, grab the installer and point the dest to your usb drive ;)

alternatively, you can try with doing all the dd and cp 'ing the boot files onto your sl partition (using chameleon 2 files)
just get the binary (not installer) from the official website and follow the instruction
you can also get pcefi10 (from netkas) cp the boot file if the above doesn't help, and rmb you need a proper DSDT.aml or it won't boot!

Re: Snow Leopard - I got it installed + guide

ok, so ill transfer the binaries to the ext. drive and cp/dd those to their places in the install environmen.

yea, i think it was a version of Chameleon 1.
    and i hope i dont have a dsdt.aml problem...

Re: Snow Leopard - I got it installed + guide

Finally got it to boot my installed snow leopard.
Things I did differently than the other 5 times:
changed Extensions.mkext name to extensions.mkext Maybe the Capital E was causing troubles XD
Used the SL installation USB to boot for the first time after installation with: rd=disk0s2

Re: Snow Leopard - I got it installed + guide

This is how I did it:

1.Restored Snow Leopard Install DVD image to 8GB FLash Drive.
2.Installed pc_efi v9 to USB drive using UInstaller from PCWiz.
    3. Copied the three files to USB drive: boot, Extensions.mkext and com.apple.Boot.plist to the Usb drive (To the directories the guide says to copy them)
    4. Renamed Extensions.mkext to extensions.mkext just switched the "E" for an "e"
    5.Booted from the Usb drive.
    6.Installed Snow Leopard.
    7. copied mkext and .plist using terminal like the guide instructs.
    8. Ran "kextcache -update-volume /Volumes/SnowLeopard"
    9. Restart
    10. Boot from the usb drive again but using "fd=disk0s2" (to boot using the snowleopard partition)

(it takes a while to start for the fisrt time, almost 3-4 minutes)

You should now be watching the welcome video :D

Doing that worked for me 3 times. (Installing VMWare breaks my isntall)

But I still havent been able to install pc_efi 9 to snow leopard partition, for that reason I still use my flash drive to boot. :(

Re: Snow Leopard - I got it installed + guide

yea, im on the same boat as you neosword, except i upgraded to the next build with relativly no problems...
took me 20 mins to find out why it would turn off when i unplugged the charger and the charging light wasnt on...the battery wasnt fully connected
anyways, im gonna load up the kexts mentioned by sp1950 and use his Extensions.mkext.
