Re: Snow Leopard - I got it installed + guide

Great thread! I've got Snow Leopard installed, latest updates, QE+CI at correct resolution, audio, battery icon in the menubar... Everything seems great so far.

Just wondering, though, if anyone else is having trackpad weirdness? When I enable clicking and dragging in the Trackpad preference pane, tapping to click seems to behave.... oddly. For instance, tapping in the menubar brings down the menu, but then it disappears. Clicking the trackpad button works properly, though.

Is there a kext I should be installing to get the trackpad to behave normally? Not a deal breaker if I have to use the physical buttons, but it's a bit of an annoyance.

    It depends.
First of all, are you using GPT right now?
If it is MBR, forget about creating new partition from the space you got.

If you can make space for SL, then just go for the installation, then drag the files to SL.
However, I took another method - creating a data partition.
You should expect that you will soon have to wipe everything of SL coz you can't upgrade to the GM build once it is out, i.e. only clean install OR upgrade from Leopard is avail.

Set the double-click speed to the fastest.
That's how I get with the problem.
And don't worry, you can perform both single and double click normally unless you are REALLY slow :D

    hey.i have some questions.
    1. can i use the PC EFI V9 installer? will this mess with anything?
    2. when i but the boot file at the root of the drive, it over-rided to pcefi boot file. should this happen
    3. When i tried to boot from the Chameleon 2 usb key i made, it asked to boot into linux. i SWEAR i installed Chameleon onto it! :x How can i actually get it to the chameleon GUI?

Re: Snow Leopard - I got it installed + guide

    1. Yes, but you will have to copy the boot file to the root. Alternatively you can use cham2+pcefi10.1
    2. Of course! This is how you "update" to pcefi10.1
    3. Try to repartition using disk utility, then use cham installer to make it a boot disk. I have never used linux so I can't help much.

refer to the help/readme incl'd in the binary of cham2

Re: Snow Leopard - I got it installed + guide

A beta decrypter for 10a421 has been posted on netkas' site.. Sounds like it's just a kludge, though, that will only work with that build. Haven't tried updating yet.

Thanks for the trackpad tip, btw. Setting the click speed to the highest setting made double-clicking icons hit or miss, the second-highest setting was the butter zone for me.

Now I need to figure out how to get hibernate working.. :x

Are you in the "transfer my data" loop?
Check if you got at least one working network card (airport card/eth with kext loaded)

or you can skip the welcome screen by starting up in single user mode and do the .applesetupdone thing
    just google it

I want to update, but still not sure how to deal with this new decrypter :?
Perhaps I would have to update, start up in -s, than patch the binaries, and finally install this pkg.

I do not use hibernate, but I guess you can still use the pmset cmd to get it work?

 Too bad I have updated to 10a421 before I read your post and now it does not boot...
I have made a clone with Carbon Copy Cloner and will try restore that tomorrow... hope it will work... otherwise will need another round of mkext fun... XP

Re: Snow Leopard - I got it installed + guide

    Read this:
    http://netkas.org/?p=120
You can copy the files to a flash drive, then start in single user mode.
Copy the files to your sl drive and run the patch.

for everyone else who wants 10a421:
download the pkgs (google is ur fd) i.e. update by running the pkgs instead of using software update
    download http://netkas.org/?p=121
open ALL the pkgs you need (slswupdate, slswupdateclient, rosetta (as req'd), x11 (as req'd), and most importantly beta_decrypter) before you start installation
install all the packages and reboot
this is how i get to 10a421
just rmb to remove dsmos before you reboot!

Re: Snow Leopard - I got it installed + guide

Does the system come up fine if you boot off your boot-132 disk/usb key? Sounds like it could be a decrypter problem.

    Make sure you've got dsmos.kext in /System/Library/Extensions.

Might not hurt to set the permissions on the kext.. From the terminal:

    sudo chmod -R -755 /System/Library/Extensions/dsmos.kext
    sudo chown -R root:wheel /System/Library/Extensions/dsmos.kext

Re: Snow Leopard - I got it installed + guide

dsmos is NOT "Don't Steal Mac OS X"!!!
dsmos is for hacks, and the later one comes with ALL genuine installations including real macs!

You have to make your own Extensions.mkext with MkextTool, add dsmos & disabler, then put the mkext under Extra.
