It's been two weeks since my cat spilled some water over my laptop, I was told yesterday they couldn't find the spanish keyboard for my laptop over here. So they will order it from China! Yes, china! That is going to take a really long time, meanwhile I am using my old toshiba satellite, but is not the most trustworthy one; it gets too hot and turns itself off so easily.

I'm a bit depressed about this, I shouldn't have left that bottle of water right next to thed laptop :( I'm not blaming the cat, because I shouldn't have put it there, I should also have closed it with the lid... I just hope everything will be ok once I get that keyboard.

Wrap the laptop in a box with cat litter, don't laugh it will remove all the
damp from your machine there's nothing better.

Use the on screen keyboard in the mean time.

I've read in an article just a few hours ago that placing a gadget drenched in water in a container filled with uncooked rice will help. The uncooked rice's role is to absorb any moisture: just remember to totally submerge your laptop in rice. I also heard silica gel does the same too but I doubt if there are that much silica gel available to cover the entire laptop. Good luck!

Hi guys! Thanks for the advice, it's a bit late for me now because the keyboard is damaged beyond repair :( But if this ever happens again I will try what you suggested me (I hope it never happens again tho). Right now am just waiting for me keyboard to arrive from china... which makes sense because everything is made in china nowadays, lol.

I have heard of putting the gadgets in rice, but not cat litter! One more trick learned! My question is what if the cat litter get inside the machine?

I would be a bit worried about the cat litter dust and would think that there would be less chances of damage with uncooked rice

I was actually wondering about that cat littler part as well... because cat litters seems to get everywhere so easily, specially when it comes to a laptop keyboard. I'm glad this is all in the past though :) I hope I never need to use any of those tips :) I'll be more careful with my laptop now on, so my cat doesn't have the chance to do the same, lol. I'll just close all my water bottles after drinking from them.

If something like this happened to one of my devices, I think I rather use the rice method but not the cat litter. The dust from it would get into any tiny space it can find.

Your cat taught you a great lesson, didn't it? Glad it is all over now :)

@IcyBC Yes, I freaked out when I saw the glass of water, tried to dry it up as much as I could, but well the damage was done. I didn't blame the cat at all, I knew it was my fault... because well, cats love to known things over, specially things with water in it. He had done that before, he can't help it, he is just a cat. I should have put the lid on it... but yeah, lesson learned, lol. I suffered so much to get that damn keyboard. My laptop got a scratch on the back in that place :p

That's a bummer I'm sorry that happened. We all make mistakes. Hopefully it doesn't take too long to get your new one.

I already got it fixed, but it took too freaking long :( I was desperate and I wore I'd never ever leave anything with water in it near the laptop. Cats have that nasty tendency to knock things over, but never again will I be so dumb! This mistake costed me a lot money and time!
