    Hello

I hope somebody on this great forum can help me.
I am very interested in installing the wonderfull office suite office 2008, made by the German softwarehouse "Softmaker".
    http://www.softmaker.com/english/ofl_en.htm
But, before buying this product (I know they make marvellous software, I've used this a lot in my Jornada 728-days") I would like to know if it is at all possible to install the Linux-version on my AAO?
    Has anybody tried this?

OK. I guess nobody has tried it.
Maybe somebody could give me some advice on how to install the trial on my AAO?

    Any help would be wonderful!

    I managed myself.
Did not know that rpm-files are (almost) the same as windows installer-files.
I still have a lot to learn!!

Glad you worked it out! I've never tried SoftOffice - how does it differ from OpenOffice?

RPM files are actually rather cleverer than Windows installers - they know exactly what needs to be in place on the system in order for the software to work. If you use the right tools to install them, they will usually go and find the neccessary extras themselves and install them (telling you beforehand), or if they can't find them, tell you and not fill your hard disk with stuff which won't work!

If the system can't find them, you then have to track down the dependencies yourself, which can be a pain, but at least you know before you try to start your newly installed software and it crashes for the lack of something!

    Hello daldred,
    Softoffice vs OpenOffice:
    Everything is personel, ofcourse, and
OpenOffice is marvellous as well!!, no doubt about that.
So, why do I prefer SoftOffice:
I like the interface of Softoffice a little bit more.
    It's (a bit) faster
    I like the build-in file-browser better
Support from the makers is (much) better
And, last but not least, in my opinion anyway, SoftOffice converts more complex MS-word documents better then OpenOffice.
